Roofers broke vent stack in attic I called they kept making excuses and never showed up had to call plumber to repair. And ***** threatened me if I reported

      Business response

      10/20/2023

I'm sorry but he is absolutely lying. He called me and stated every time his wife did laundry, there has been a foul odor in the house. He looked in the attic and seen the *** plumbing vent stack pipe was not attached to their 2 bathroom *** vent plumbing vent pipes. He thought it was our company that caused the pipes to disconnect like that (see pics). I came as soon as I could when he 1st called me. It took a few days because we are short handed and very busy.

I climbed up into his attic and found the main plumbing vent stack was indeed disconnected from the 2 horizontal bathroom plumbing vent pipes that are approximately 5 feet to the left and 5 feet to the right of the main vertical vent pipe. The 2 bathroom vertical vent pipes protruded into the attic about 10 inches above the insulation from the interior walls below, had a 90 degree elbow at the top that connected to a 2 inch horizontal pipe in which used to be connected to a 4 inch to 2 inch reducing tee that connected to a 4 inch vertical pipe that went up and through the roof. The 4 inch vertical pipe had no support strap or bracket so who ever installed these vent pipes installed them incorrectly without the proper support. Through time, the weight of the 4 inch vertical pipe in the middle had dropped which caused all the pipes to become disconnected.

This was not something caused by something we had done. It was done prior to us doing anything on the roof. I took a few pictures and the pictures clearly show that this happened long before we had done any roof work. If you look closely, you will see a stain where the rubber boot was sealed on the on the 4 inch pipe where it went through the roof. Look at the angle of that stain and you can see it is the angle of the roof slope. That stain clearly shows that pipe had been turned. It also shows one of the 2 inch horizontal pipes is still connected to it and the ** If you were to turn that vertical 4 inch pipe back where it originally was, that 2 inch horizontal pipe still attached would be going in the direction of the bathroom vent to the right side and the 2 inch horizontal pipe laying on the insulation by itself was moved from the bathroom vent on the left side to where it currently is now. AND there is NO WAY that pipe could have been turned like that because that 2 inch horizontal pipe that is still connected to the 4 inch vertical pipe would have struck either the roof rafters or the center 2x4 roof truss webbing boards. Now take a look at the dirt, dust and insulation over the pipes and inside the pipes. Then look and see how the pipes are sunk into the insulation as well. Those two things show that this happened a long time ago, way before we did anything. I estimate at least 2 or more years prior.

I had decided that even though it was not cause by us, I was going to come back to make the needed repairs and properly support the pipes per local building codes anyway just to help them out since it was an easy repair. I told ************** that I would be over and put a cap on the 4 inch pipe until I was able to come back and repair the pipes but since I was able to come sooner than I thought, I decided to not cap the pipe and told him I would be by that following Thursday morning (which would be on the 19th) if that worked for him and he replied that worked for him too.

At 7:30 on the morning of the 19th, he texted me asking if I was still coming. I told him yes but I had to wait for a late material delivery at one of my jobsites. I was notified they would be late and the new arrival time would be between 9:00 am and 12:00 Noon. I told ************** that I would be there as soon as the delivery truck comes. Then he got really angry at me for not being there right then and that I said it would be early when all I actually said was Thursday morning with no time at all so I have no idea why he was so mad. I tried calming him down and kept reassuring him I will be there but he kept getting more and more angry. Then I showed him the pictures and explained what I described above and told him how I would be coming over anyway to help because that is the type of person I am. He then started threatening me that he was going to call my insurance provider, the BBB and his attorney. I then was tired of all his attitude and stated if he did do any of that, I would *** him for hurting our company's reputation, defamation and slander. Then I got a call from my insurance agent stating he had called and tried making a claim. I texted him back and I admit that I king of lost my temper a little but I told him "SCREW YOU" and to go fix it his own self.

By then, the delivery truck had arrived and I was getting ready to head over to his house and would have been there within ************************************************** I walked away. Just about all our conversations were done by texting except the day I came to look in his attic so I have it all available if needed as proof along with the pictures I attached to this response.

Customer asked for a payment of a certain dollar amount for everything to be dropped and we could both move on. I agreed and mailed him the check on 10/28/2023. He should receive it by 10/24/2023 or 10/25/2023 depending on how fast the postal service is.
