    Told I needed a very expensive repair that I didn't

    I needed a water valve replaced on the main water line coming into my house.A Mr. ********************** plumber came to my house and quoted the job to replace the valve. I specifically asked for a ball valve. The valve being replaced was a gate valve. There was no objection to replacing with a ball valve during the quote visit from the plumber.I agreed to have the repair, and when the valve was replaced and I was inspecting it, I found a gate valve was used. I asked why a ball valve was not used as requested and I was told it wasn't allowed by code.A few minutes after the plumber left, I found that the install was leaking.I called the company and they did come right back out and was able to stop the leak on the new install. This could have been a very big problem as the valve is next to a finished area.I looked into the gate valve code requirement for the main line by calling the city and speaking to someone in the city codes department as well as reading the code requirement link they provided. Based on the information, it is my belief that a ball valve was allowed by code. After speaking to Mr. ********************** plumbing they still tell me a gate valve was required but provided no documentation to support their claim. They didn't ask to see any of the documentation concerning the city codes that I had obtained or to follow up with the city codes department. Mr. ********************** offered no remedy.
