Two weeks ago on a Saturday, my bathroom sink faucet would not turn off and I had water spraying in the room. There are no handles under the sink, the shutoff is one of many handles in the basement, so I called a plumber to turn the water off and replace my faucet. C&C Mechanical was one of the few plumbers available that Saturday and they made it clear they would charge $197 just to come out and look at it. Not fix it, look at it. Okay. They had me over a barrel. No one I could call at that moment to turn the water off so I said come on out. I ended up with a bill for $627 to replace my faucet and it included two hours of OT to "diagnose the problem," and one hour OT to drive to Lowe's and get a $50 faucet. (Who takes 4 hrs. to replace a faucet?) I later talked to the company about the price and they informed me they encourage their technicians to replace parts instead of the entire fixture. Lady, a faucet costs $50. Two hours overtime to "diagnose" cost me $400. Do you think I care if a cartridge can be replaced in a $50 faucet? Man, that's just incompetence on the part of the technician. Took him forever to find the water shutoff, too. End result was an email with a $25 credit to my bill and a $50 certificate for use on their next service call to me. There will be no next service call. The only thing I will do with C&C Mechanical is tell everyone I know my experience because this price gouging is unconscionable. I had to drop off my car this morning to Family Wrench (GREAT company!) and told my Uber driver on the way back all about my plumbing experience with C&C Mechanical. Then I went to breakfast with a friend and told them (and the waitress) all about C&C Mechanical. This afternoon, when I get an Uber to pick up my car, I'll be telling that driver about C&C Mechanical while I'm also handing them a business card recommending Family Wrench! My new hobby and life's mission is gonna be telling everyone about my price gouging experience.
