  ******. I just received a mailing from Athena Protection that should be outright illegal. It is presented as coming directly from the manufacturer. I actually assumed it was a recall from the letterhead, but it goes on to urge to contact them immediately with my VIN and mileage under an ominous threat of financial liability.The letterhead boldly reads (the year and make of my vehicle), Official business, Penalty for private use $300, Important Vehicle Information. Address change? And even includes a stock photo of the car.I really had to scrutinize the fine print to find the actual company: an independent nationwide company marketing vehicle service contracts on behalf of leading 3rd party administrators.I just bought and plated the car 2 months ago. Apparently they buy that info from the state BMV, which is how they can make it appear so accurately misleading.Major red flags.

The mailer referenced by the consumer is a legally compliant marketing notice intended to inform vehicle owners of optional protection plans available to them. The vehicle information includedsuch as year, make, and modelis obtained through publicly available and legally sourced third-party data, as allowed by law.
  We would like to clarify that the notices we sendincluding the one in question, which has been provided to the BBB for referenceclearly state that Athena Protection is not affiliated with the vehicles manufacturer or dealership. This disclaimer is not limited to fine print; it is present and visible on the notice itself to avoid confusion.
  While we strive to ensure our mailings are clear and informative, we understand how the presentation may still cause concern for some recipients. We continuously evaluate feedback like this to further improve the transparency and clarity of our communications.
  We also want to assure the BBB and the consumer that any recipient who does not wish to receive future communications can easily opt out by contacting us directly at the number located on the notice.

  I constantly receive scam letters from Athena Protection trying to coerce me into buying an additional warranty for a 2024 vehicle I purchased in August of 2024, which currently has only 818 miles. I spoke with two of their representatives today, who claimed that my warranty was about to expire and provided me with the date of expiration of my warranty. I was curious and contacted them because I had already purchased an extended warranty when I bought the vehicle. Would it be possible for BBB to contact these folks and ask them to stop sending these letters where, in Bold print, they lie about the warranty? The letters look legitimate, and the public will fall prey to this scam.
