A contract was entered upon on May 9, 2000 for the making and placement of a grave headstone. Money (check) was exchanged for the services of making and erecting the headstone upon the passing of one or both people involved. According to the companies contract final payment is due when the headstone wis erected at the grave. In January 20, 2024 my gather passed and I called the monument company to have the stone started and done. I was told that now they wanted almost $3500 in order to do the job. I told them we had our contract and that is not what it stated. I was told then that Blake Gilpin would have to talk to the owner and call us back. I have since called again and again told we would get a call back. Still nothing. I told
Holt Monument I would honor our end of the contract and
Come pay them in full although it had not been erected and we are still waiting on them to call us with a resolution.

The contract that was entered into on May 9, 2000 by ******** ******.  The original order/contract stated that the monument was to be paid ahead.  Completion would occur when it was paid in full.  As original payment of $124.23 was made on May 9, 2000.  No further payments were received.

On Sept. 12, 2001, a letter was sent to Mrs. ****** stating that since we had not received any payments since the original that we could not stand by the original price.  There had been price increases and tax increases since that time.  The original payment was offered to be refunded.  We requested that they contact us.   No contact was forthcoming.

On May 19, 2020, the ****** came back into the business to see what they could do about the situation.  A new order was drawn up showing the current price and taxes at that time.  They took the original copy along with payment.  We never received anything.  We offered to refund the original payment at that time also.  They didn't want it.

**** ****** started calling after the start of 2024, claiming to be the ****** daughter.  She stated that both were deceased and was demanding we do the monument for the original amount.  Mr. Gilpin explained that we could not do that and there had been numerous price increases since then.  In a subsequent phone conversation, she told Mr. Gilpin that she had in the meantime purchased a monument from somewhere else.

We would refund the original $124.23 but according to legal counsel it would have to be paid to ******** ****** estate.

Holt Monument Company has no intentions on giving our family back the deposit that was made on towards the mentioned headstone.  They will only give the money back if all negative reports are removed involving their name.  Very poor way of doing business and as a consumer, we feel as though others need to be made aware of this type of business practice.

We have always stated that we would be happy to refund the initial down payment from 24 years ago, but we never asked for it.  Several opportunities have been given for that to happen and were never acted upon.  If this is a request for that refund, we will be happy to remit it to Mrs. ******.
