      My experience with Nacel Open Door has been extremely concerning, particularly regarding their handling of host family placements. The exchange student I'm advocating for was placed in a home where she faced significant issues, including hygiene neglect, unpaid labor, medical neglect, financial exploitation, and emotional and social abuse.Despite repeated instances of neglect, including unsanitary living conditions, frequent unpaid babysitting, and withheld medical care, there was little intervention from the program. The student endured emotional manipulation, was socially isolated, and often felt unsafe due to boundary-testing behaviors from the host family. She even feared being expelled from the program due to being put in compromising situations.Nacel's lack of oversight, failure to act on these concerns, and the conflicts of interest in their local coordinators have resulted in a deeply troubling and harmful experience. I cannot recommend this program based on how poorly this situation was managed. I hope Nacel will seriously reconsider how they vet and monitor host families to protect future students from similar experiences.
