I had a crown (tooth 15) done on May 11, 2023 and the dentist filed a claim with my dental insurance. Insurance requested X-rays on repeated occasions that showed the entire tooth. The dentist kept sending an X-ray which did not show the entire tooth. My wife and I had many conversations with the dental office and with insurance over the next several months trying to get the matter resolved. In Dec 2023 the dental office told us to call insurance and speak with a supervisor at which point we decided we were no longer going to do the dental office's job for them and stopped intervening. In Sept 2024, we received the first bill for the service in the amount of $1,433.00 which is more than the contract allowance of $1,171.27 for the service and our responsibility is half of that contract allowance. We had further conversations with the dental office and insurance and they filed a new claim instead of updating the old claim. My wife brought this information into the office and had a lengthy conversation with the manager (*******) who said she would put a hold on the bill and work on this with insurance. We just received another bill from the dentist for the total amount $1,433.00. Since this is more than one year after the date of service, according to insurance the claim is outside of the allowed time frame and insurance says that I, the member, owe nothing. My wife contacted insurance who said the dentist office knows that they need to file an appeal in order to have the claim reviewed and we can file a grievance. We are in the process of filing that grievance. Our concern is that the bill will be sent to collections and this will harm us financially.

    Business Response

We have reviewed the patients complaint and account details. Our practice manager reached out to the family and spoke with the patients wife, apologized for the slow communication, and explained that an error was made on our end, resulting in the necessary adjustments not being applied initially. The patients wife was appreciative of the call and the fact that the full adjustment has now been made to their account.

I am rejecting this response because:

I am awaiting something in writing indicating that my bill is now $0.  I sent a request on 11/15/24 through the company website's "Contact Us" page.  Once I receive something stating our balance is $0, I will be happy to consider this matter resolved.

It is unfortunate that the patient did not reach out to our practice manager directly to address the issue sooner. However, our practice manager did speak with the patient's wife today and provided her with a walkout statement confirming that the full adjustment has been made. As a result, the patient's account balance is now zero. This information has also been scanned into the patient's record for future reference, should it be needed.
