I bought a refurbished computer from Free Geek on October 25th. It was a 2014 ***** iMac. When I took it home and set it up, the computer would barely run because the hard drive was so slow. Fortunately, Free Geek has a 30-day warranty where they will either repair the product if they can, or give you a gift certificate. I contacted the business by email and received no response. So I brought the computer back November 1st, they accepted it, and I heard nothing for several days. I finally called Free Geek and they said the computer is an older computer and that while yes, the hard drive is slow, this is within their expectations. They refused to refund me. I paid in cash so I have no other recourse. This computer is unusably slow without further modification. I was essentially sold a bill of goods.

    Business Response

Hello, Mr. ******* purchased a computer on October 25th. Computers purchased from our non-profit are provided a 30 day limited Warranty. Our warranty is posted on our website and on the bottom of our receipts. The Warranty can be found at ********************************************************** The 2014 ***** iMac is considered a retro system. *****/Mac products from 2015 and newer are considered modern computers. We did not receive any email correspondence from Mr. ******** As part of the warranty program we did take the computer back to have our tech's troubleshoot the issue that Mr. ******* had. We let customers know that it will take up to ********************************************** addition, we are closed on Monday's and Tuesday's. So it could be likely that if Mr. ******* brought in the computer on a weekend we would not have gotten back to him until the next week. We did respond to Mr. ******* that the computer was operational and that this was to be expected for an older operating system running newer software. We do not do operating system upgrades on warranty items. From our perspective the computer is functioning within the range of expectations for a computer that is over 10 years old. We are a small non-profit electronics recycler with a mission to refurbish computer systems for sale at low prices to the public. We provide build sheets for each computer, outlining the age of the computer, the operating system installed, the amount of memory and ram. We do so in order to be transparent to the public about the type of system they are purchasing and the limits of the system given the age. We have made a good faith effort with Mr. ******* and we are dismayed that he is not satisfied with his purchase.
