I’m writing this review to share my experience with Capella University after being administratively withdrawn from the FlexPath program, despite clear efforts on my part to follow guidance and improve my academic standing.
I submitted a formal appeal and grievance citing:
    Miscommunication about academic deadlines
    Misaligned academic advising
A lack of real-time opportunity to clarify concerns
Emotional and financial harm from being withdrawn without disbursement of financial aid funds
Even though I passed courses I had been advised to retake and was actively working to return to good standing, Capella applied internal billing deadlines that were not clearly communicated and used them to justify my withdrawal.
My appeal was denied with no thorough explanation or opportunity for further discussion, and my reinstatement request was also denied without addressing many of the points I raised. I was left with no support, no aid disbursement, and no resolution beyond a cold, final email.
As a student who was committed to my education and followed every direction given to me, this experience was both discouraging and disheartening. For a for-profit institution, I expected better transparency, accountability, and student-centered support. Unfortunately, my experience shows a system more focused on policy technicalities than educational outcomes.
I’m sharing this review so that prospective students are fully informed before enrolling.

Capella isn’t necessarily a bad school i have personally talked to some very nice people that have went out of their way to help me. However financial aid is a mess they do not properly inform their representatives so they are stuck trying to explain everything to the best of their knowledge to angry college students that don’t want to hear excuses. If you have a better school in mind go only enroll in capella as a last choice and even then beware save yourself the stress life is hard enough.

Like many others have said, RUN! I signed up for classes, pending FAFSA completion. However, due to some issues with my taxes, FAFSA would not be completed in time. My advisor said not to worry, they would simply drop my enrollment and I could reapply when I completed my FAFSA. Imagine my surprise when I received a bill over $6,000 for CLASSES I DID NOT TAKE. Since I have everything in writing via text and email, I disputed the charge. However, it did not matter. They are demanding I pay for the classes I never took, after being told that I would be dropped and could reapply. The worse part is that they turned it over to collections and it shows on my credit report. RUN!

Title: Unprofessional and Disorganized – No Real Support After Enrollment
I’m sharing this review to strongly urge anyone considering this school to look elsewhere. While the school comes off as helpful and responsive during enrollment—calling and emailing you constantly—that support disappears the moment you start classes.
My advisor has been unresponsive and offers no real guidance. It takes days to get a reply, and when I do, it’s either vague or not helpful at all. Once you’re in, you’re pretty much on your own.
The instructors are even worse. Any time you ask a question or need clarity, they immediately refer you to “Academic Writing” resources, rather than directly answering the question or taking the time to guide you. It feels like a scripted response to avoid being held accountable. You can ask something simple and get nothing more than, “Please refer to Academic Writing.” It’s dismissive and unprofessional, especially when you’re making an effort to understand and improve.
I followed all the formatting guidelines, used APA correctly (as I have in other classes), and even revised my work based on the instructor’s feedback. Still, I was graded unfairly, with no justification. It’s as if instructors are allowed to make up their own rules and no one oversees them.
There is zero structure or consistency. If expectations weren’t stated on day one, they shouldn’t be enforced halfway through the course. Yet this school allows it to happen.
This program is very expensive, but once they have your money, the support stops. They don’t care about student success—they care about enrollment numbers and financial aid. I will be withdrawing and reporting the school to the appropriate board.
Do not waste your time or money here. This is not a school that supports students—it’s a business that leaves you to struggle while they cash in.

Pretty shoddy administrative departments. They randomly gave me a credit, after many phone calls to confirm it was legit, took away the credit ….3 months after graduation so I’m stuck with an extra 750 dollars for no reason and my numerous phone calls are answered by emails. I would not attend school again.

RUN. AS FAR AS YOU CAN. And don't look back. The advisors, including financial aid, academic coaches are ALL over the place. Every time you call you get different answers, they have no idea what the hell they're doing. They don't even take proper notes when you speak to someone on the phone so when you call again to follow up, you get a completely different answer. They overcharge for credits. You can EASILY take the same courses from a different online school for WAY cheaper credits, its such a scam. If you're in project management, good luck with the disclosure about not being able to use the software if you have a MAC. They don't tell you this when you enroll, as if they expect you to know what software you need and what type of computer its compatible with. The way the whole thing is organized is dysfunctional and they could care less! They're only out for your money. I wish I had known this before I started, I would have DEFINITELY went with other schools that are BETTER academically and CHEAPER with a TRAINED staff!

Capella’s university has the worst financial aid department. I got a 3 year old bill from them, then they say oh I’m sorry we didn’t know invoice was blank when we sent it to your employer. They wouldn’t allow me to set up monthly payment arrangements. A ERROR on their behalf the staff even admit it. Now I’m Unable to obtain a copy of my transcript or enroll in a new degree program.
After several months of going back and forth, they give me the option to pay $2,000 from 2020. They gave me less than 3 months to pay it all or default on arrangement. I feel the presidents/ceos definitely need to look into what’s going on in the financial aid department. Because if you drop the ball you should make right. The thing that agitates me the most I was willing to pay what I owed. I asked for smaller payment options understanding I couldn’t, take any classes until the balance was paid off.
They would not all me, I have proof from my previous employers direct bill policy. Every time I called to try to rectify the situation they were not helpful. Now I have been sent to collections, when I tried everything within my financial means to clear up balance to avoid collections.

I withdrew from this university. I can't begin to explain the headaches I have endured through the
student financial aid department. This department needs a complete rework and the ones who are there need to be fired. I have spoken to more than one of the department's employees regarding my aid package and they failed to disburse my funds for the winter term, and now I owe the university over six thousand dollars. I would not recommend this university to anyone. They have done a serious disservice and will not take any responsibility for their actions.
After I contacted them for the sixth time this month, they told me that the student is responsible to ensure that their funds are disbursed. I don't work in the department and how am I supposed to ensure that when all the necessary materials had been submitted to them in a timely manner. To make a long story short, I am now stuck with a debt that is hanging over my head. I plan on disputing this with another entity to see what my options are. They aren't getting a dime from me and it's purely their fault because they have incompetent people working in that department who aren't equipped with he necessary skills to do the job. They also don't offer payment plans for overdue balances to which I had no knowledge, but I am responsible for the overdue balance because of incompetent people. I am glad that I have transferred to a better school that values their students and has qualified staff to teach the courses. I wish anyone good luck if they decide to attend Capella because most if not all of the faculty are adjunct, which means they are part-time employees who rarely answer emails or grade on time.
Do not attend this FOR-PROFIT school. I feel like I have been scammed by them. The class resources are outdated and the assignments are so easy a third grader could pass. There is no real learning except the research papers which teach you more than the instructors.

I see so many bad reviews but honestly through the *** and downs getting through my graduate degree everything has been great. I am now wrapping up my degree and would recommend the psychology program for mental health counseling. Its hard work and many hoops to jump through but its worth it!

I would not recommend this school to anyone. I just submitted my 1st paper & was failed for the entire course, a loss of over 3k. It was for an error on a reference page. There were two additional research papers due before May. I was told that is their policy. I feel completely scammed. Do not attend this university.
