1 starThis website is full of scammers, and there doesn't seem to be an effective way to remove their posts. On other sites when I report a scam they dissappear immediately, but the very person that scammed me out of over a thousand dollars still has their post up on roommates.com even though I reported them and talked to support. Not to mention the fact that you have to pay them a weekly fee to even message people.

It's unfortunate that you ran into a scammer on the site. We do our best to keep the scammers at bay. Hopefully you were able to dispute your payment through the avenue that you paid to recoup your money.
When you report a user we review the account for fraud and if you sent in proof of then the account can be removed. We were unable to find any correspondence from your email.
Sending messages on Roommates.com is free. Once you start receiving responses to your messages then you will need to purchase a membership to open and read them.
Please contact us at [email protected] with the account information and correspondence of the scam and we will look into getting the account removed.

5 starsI loved the expectations on both sides and the clear communication between the renter and people needing a room. The anonymous communication was perfect then, when the relationship was more comfortable, phone numbers and even home visits took place. I also loved Roommates.com to be able to weed out the flakey or (secretive) creepy/undesirable renters so quickly! Yes I found a great renter, fast!Review fromMarilyn K

Hello,Roommates.com is not a scam, it is a bulletin board service. Roommates.com does not create accounts or profiles to lure users to pay for a membership. 5 starsGreat site I advertised my room took some pictures what county I lived in and got a bunch of matches of people looking for a room in my area I would highly recommend this site for people looking to rent out a room and I used the free part of the site and had good luck I had quite a few good people contact me ****Roommates.com

1 starI have tried Roomates.com twice. I have never received any "real" inquiries. All the inquiries I have received have been fraudsters.... All want to send a "check" to you before getting the in depth info on the room or before seeing the room! Roomates does not have anywhere where I can actually notify them of these profiles that are linked to fraud... So they apparently are endorsing these types of scams... I wish that I had remembered my experience from before as it was years ago or I never would have wasted my time or money! ITS A HARD PASS! IF I COULD GIVE ZERO STARS I WOULDRoommates.com
