I am writing this complaint because of me being continuously overcharged on my electrical bill currently I am unemployed due to me losing my job 3 weeks ago. I just received assistance from the state they paid off the last bill just a few days ago to $0 and now my I logged on there today. My balance is now $ ******* there is no way my bill should be that high. It's just me living in his house. I do not have central air. I use a portable AC to keep the house. Cool there's no way the state of Michigan just paid $1900 to Dte a few days ago and DH just added an additional $1100 to my bill. They are completely overcharging me for this electrical bill and they've been doing it for the past couple of monthsBusiness Response

Consistent loss of power with weather events not commensurate with surrounding areas, cities and counties. Blatant disregard for tree maintenance results in significant loss of power in surrounding areas. Many residents are reliant upon power for life saving and maintenance equipment. The disregard for safety and aggressive tree maintenance has created a situation whereby human safety is outweighed by budgetary confines. Power lines are sub standard and require significant upgrades. None of this is new or undocumented. Perhaps its time to get media involved to highlight the substandard service with exorbitant fees assessed to local residents.Business Response

I literally purchased a power generator to avoid the harsh cold during power outages in the winter. My generator purchase cost me $1100. I am a single mother, with health conditions, and unaware of the electrical connections required to even hook my generator up. I believe it requires a specific generator cord that costs above $100 to service my home. My complaint isnt about the generator but about the very many frequent power outages that my residence is subjected to with the slightest wind or rain let alone major storms. Today, yet again a 5 minute rain storm and my residence is without power. DTE doesnt reimburse for outages u less they are greater than 24 hours. Though I am amongst the few 5 percent of resident in my area that is experiencing an outage and this happens all the time. I asked *** during the outages occurred last summer to investigate the cause for the frequent outages and they said they would. They placed a type of solar grid within 100 feet of my home and as you are being informed today their so called investigation did not resolve the matter. I have been subjected to at least 3-5 insurance claims for food spoilage due to the frequent power outages and yes my homeowners insurance has increased. I have been subjected to harsh cold and power outages that are illegal and wrong. Every month I pay my DTE bill on time, ahead of time, over and above the amount due as a long standing DTE customer and its not fair not at all which is why I am making this complaint k own to you today. There are people that I know and have brought to the attention of the police that fraudulently have illegally obtained power to their homes free of charge. I am a tax payer, I own my home, I dont owe DTE anything. Every month I pay nearly $350 for my monthly residential services and yet I am still subjected to being amongst the 5% of residence whose power goes out.Business Response

DTE ENERGY HOME PROTECTION PLAN JULY 3rd 2025. I contacted dt e energy home protection plan regarding my refrigerator the ice maker wasn't working. They scheduled an appointment which had to be canceled.Because they overbooked that day with the one company that we work with A E APPLIANCES . You're scheduling to July 8th.With detroit appliance. Young man came down with only a screwdriver mm his phone, looking up how to I work on my refrigerator with *******. This tells me that this person is I'm not qualified to work on any appliances and all he had was a truck. They was writing in. The technician starts working on the ice maker and this assembles, it it finds out it's not working. And says, you cannot order the part.Because my refrigerator is too old. I mentioned to him that it doesn't matter how old the appliance is. *** has to cover it according to my contracts. He puts it in his notes that the part needs to be ordered, so yeah, gte can look at it. I told him it has to be repaired when he left. I opened my refrigerator door the ice maker assembly falls down on my foot and smashes my toes. I told the advocates at dte energy home appliance protection, what happened and they will not cooperates. Ask many supervisors, and they will not give me a straightforward answer. And would that compensate me for not even using my? A home protection plan for over 2 years. When I first started. This seems to be a false or money pit scam. I item ideal thing. Please investigate. This seems to be going on with a lot of their customers. I have talked to *** customers online and they are deathily. Discouraged about the situation as well. Repeated, recurrent power outages which are always prolonged past estimated restoration and in a specific area. Why isnt an upgrade in infrastructure or longer term solution implemented. Just this month lost power twice. Poor customer service of this level should not be allowed. No one can be reached by phone, no financial repercussions to poor service .Business Response

Hello my name is ******* ******** and I submitted documentation about a medical hold with a drs note stating my condition and reason for the necessity and WHY it would be detrimental to my health if they shut off my electrical. Dte REFUSES to accept a legal doctors letter containing all the necessary requirements by Michigan state law they still refuse to accept it saying life support isnt the same thing as heat stroke when theyre both valid medical emergencies. I need them to accept my doctors note or reduce the amount that they say I owe monthly Dte CAN forgive some of the balance they choose not to and I cant keep paying $266 a month for electricity. Im a single mom Dte already has me coded as ********** and *** wants $1,000 copay to make a payment. I dont know what else to do at this point. I need help.Business Response

I just need to let it be known and have other people begin to take notice on how ridiculous the prices are for this service and the predatory tactics they use once they know you are locked into their service. It should not take DTE as long as it has the past who knows how many years to restore power after an outage. Now in the middle of a heat wave, they won't have power restored until 18+ hours after the outage occured.Business Response
