I am an elderly woman and hired ***** Hewes to build me a house. The project began on 6/4/19 with $262,280.00 paid over several payments. He abandoned the job and on 3/18/21 when he picked up his tools and all direct dealings were ended. A lawyer was consulted but no litigation begun. He agreed to complete a turn-key home with no additional work required: single story, 3-bedroom on full basement with first anticipated completion date of 12/31/19. A revised contract was done since he was not on-site to complete the work according to the original contract with a new completion date of 06/31/2020. His reason for not completing on time was that the grounds guy didnt complete his assignment and he was too busy. He spent many months not working on the project with equipment sitting in the yard and later in the shell of the building. In early January 2021, the locks were changed. He returned in late February to take out tools that he had stored there to be used on another job, found the locks changed and began harassing me for another $20,000 that he said was due and threatening to *** me for that and more. He officially quit the job on March 18, 2021.Many promised items were not completed: driveway, lawn, walls, floors, insulation, wiring, plumbing, cabinets, toilets, sinks, garage door, outside steps, porch, garage fire wall, etc. He did complete: a driveway was roughed in to begin construction but was not completed as promised, the site cleared and prepared for the foundation, the foundation walls went in 9/19 and the floor poured 7/8/20. No work was done between those dates. The exterior framing, doors, windows done, roof and siding not completed. I had to hire a lawyer when he quit and hire other contractors to complete the job, not yet finished. I have now spent and additional $100,440.94 and still cannot effectively live in the house.
