This is a bariatric patient's nightmare!! I was getting weight loss surgery and was on a roll with getting my numerous appointments out the way early and this was my last one. I had my appointment in early April and the meeting was about an hour. Bandy was nice but I felt she was just going through a checklist of questions, and we didn't have much of the conversation I thought we would have, which is fine. We got through the session and my approval was sent to my surgeon the next day. I felt relieved and just need to wait until surgery day.
Later in the month I got a charge of $250 on my credit card and I was shocked. I know she takes my insurance and she a preferred specialist on the **** website so I should have only been charged a $40 copay. I reached out to Brandy, and she advised that I go through my insurance to get reimbursed because she claimed that she can't give me a diagnosis or procedure code because I didn't have a mental illness. Ok, no problem, I reached out to insurance. They tell me there was no claim submitted and to reach back out to her and get the codes. So I did and explained to Brandy that the insurance needs this info for me to get reimbursed. She again told me that her license doesn't allow her to diagnose. I find that hard to believe but it doesn't change the fact that she never went through my insurance and charged me full price for a service that I know is covered.
I was tired of going back and forth with her because it was clear I wasn't getting a refund, so I let it go. ****, however, felt differently and launched in investigation about my money. Based on an email exchange, they advised her of the codes she need to use in my particular case so I would be charged accordingly. I guess Brandy felt a type of way about it because she retracted her evaluation literally 2 WEEKS before my surgery in June!! I'm livid at this point but thank goodness I was about to find someone on such short notice. However, when I reached out to Brandy and asked

      Ms. M*****,
It was explained to you three times before the assessment that without a valid diagnosis code your insurance cannot be billed because you may not have the necessary diagnosis code to bill your insurance company. You were educated that without a valid diagnosis code you would have to pay for your assessment out of pocket. This was all re-explained to you after your assessment was completed and based on the information that you did not have a billable code for your insurance company to cover your assessment. You lodged a complaint (which is your right to do) with your insurance company against me to try to make me to use an unethical code to have your assessment covered by your insurance company. I followed all the of the procedures to address the complaint with you and your insurance company. This took months to resolve the matter and you were emailed all of the correspondence between your insurance company and I to give you the correct information.
To resolve the complaint I refunded the entire fee charged to you to and made sure your insurance company and your surgeon gave you referrals to complete your assessment with someone else. The diagnosis code you wanted me to use cannot be used with my license and can only be used by a doctor. I refuse to engage in using an unethical code and fraudulently billing your insurance company. Your insurance company is in complete agreement that the code you presented to them is not a code I am authorized to use and are satisfied with the resolution on this matter. Please feel free to contact your insurance company if you need further clarity on this matter.

Explained 3 times, I think not.....Again, I did not lodge a complain! i simply went to the insurance company as you suggested and they did their own investigation and came up with a solution prior to you issuing me a refund. Again, I did NOT provide the insurance company a code to use and per the emails you send me its clearly them who gave you a code. It did not take months to resolve the issue, a month a best so lets not exaggerate the issue. i simply told you what the insurance company required from me to file this claim and be reimbursed by THEM, they wanted to take it in another direction which was beyond my control at that point. Again, **** told you how to code my visit, not me. No clarity is needed, I am very glad the issue is resolved and i got my refund. I told you that I was going to write a review and because I'm a woman of my word I did.
