I hired Edward M******* of ToolBoxHome LLC ( 2108 Hampshire Drive, Fallston MD 21047 MHIC #91625) to finish my basement on April 8th 2022. Came to find out the price he gave was for doing the entire work including electrical & plumbing himself. He wasn't licensed to do any of this. Asked him to finish my deck instead he didn't have licenses for that either. I gave him $10000 as advance and he has only done some framing. I still asked him to finish the deck he refused, I asked for the money back he said give him 30 days and now after that time he is still not returning my money.Business response

Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2022/05/29) */ I have been in business for 17 years I have an A+ rating with the BBB and on ************ I have a 4.87 out of 5 stars with 78 reviews. This client was given an estimate in late February. In early March I lowered my estimate to try to get this job because it was a nice job and I had a Tax issue where they were not going to let me renew my license I now have an accountant working that knows Quickbook and he is also going to be doing my bookkeeping since I lost my last person who did all that and this was all explained to the client. She let me start the job and gave me a check for a 3rd down. This client is a contractor's worst nightmare. Her check took 13 days to clear because the bank said they didn't trust that she put the money in the account. I had to get proof of payment from her before they would clear it, so I ended up putting my own money out to get started. All the clients that I've worked for always text me or call and say Eddie the basement door is open just come in or the front door is unlocked. For this client I would text her I'm on my way, text her I'm 5 minutes away, text her I'm here and still get there with materials and tools to find the door locked. As I'm bringing materials in she would ask me to please keep the slider shut so snakes won't get in and she would turn the lights off every time she went upstairs. I remember seeing on her proof of payment a balance of like 1700 so I started to believe she didn't have the money to complete this job and after bringing a Licensed electrician, plumber, and drywall guy there she seemed to have gotten nervous and had another girl call me on the phone that was very rude and disrespectful to me demanding that we are stopping the job and she wants her money back and this girl was just like throwing numbers at me as to what she believed I owed back. I told the client that I run a business here we don't just throw out numbers, I said let me figure my time labor and materials that I purchased and the other girl said sir your talking to me, not to her, so I ended the call. The next day I told the client this is not how I do business and I will not be talking to that girl again. I asked her why didn't just call me and tell me that she didn't want to finish then she became very uncooperative telling me I can take some materials back and some she will let me know and then days would go by before I knew exactly what I was to take back and what I wasn't in the meantime demanding her money the whole time and I'm trying to explain I need to know so I can run the numbers I'm not just pulling a number out of a hat like you want me to. Then she started to ask me to build a deck I said no I don't want to work for you anymore I want to work for a client who trusts me. and I've found out over my 54 years of life that is for sure when a person doesn't trust me it's because they can't be trusted. We came to an agreement that I would return the money in 30 days after arguing with her because she kept saying that's my money you shouldn't have used it and I explained to her she was wrong. after 2 weeks she started harassing and told me she was going to continue harassing me until she got her money this is what people who rip people off tend to do because knowing how the do people drives them crazy thinking that other people will do it to them. And I told her that if she continues that I will extend the payment still telling her I'm paying her the money. My new accountant / bookkeeper said he should have me done this week and that the IRS will know what is owed and I can pay them or if it's a lot of money I can do a payment plan and they will release my license back to me Consumer Response /* (3000, 7, 2022/05/31) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) The agreed 30 days have passed and he still has not mentioned telling a specific time by which he will pay back my money. No clear date has been set no payment plant either.
