During the pandemic, our hospitality business was affected by the mandated shut-down. While we faced financial hardship, we were one of a few businesses that paid a portion of our rent during this time. While the Governor ordered that there are no evictions during the pandemic, James ******* ********, Leasing Agent with Merritt Properties, was forcing us to vacate the property (without Court Order). We were NOT hold-over tenants and had a lease termination of 2022. In our telephone conversation with ********, we declined his offer to move us to a less-desirable, high-crime, rodent-infested location. We reiterated that we were income insecure, and it wasn't wise to terminate one lease and enter into another in a world of uncertainty. In all of his PROUD privilege and white POWER, Campbell then called us S Q U A T T E R S ! ! ! His bigoted apology, "Inaccurate term, I apologize." Professionally, there is NO "term" [emphasis added] appropriate or accurate in this instance. So I remain perplexed: is SQUATTER the new name for N * * * * *???? You ought to be ashamed!
