In February 2024, my elderly, Spanish-speaking father, **** ******, was approached by ****** *****, a representative affiliated with Bright Planet Solar and *********** Mr. ***** claimed the solar panels were part of a free, government-funded program to help ********** families reduce electricity costs. He told my father there was no contract, only a brief acknowledgment form. All documents were in English, and no Spanish copy was provided, despite my father not being able to read or understand English. After the panels were installed, my father began receiving unexpected bills from EverBright. When we contacted ****** ***** to understand the charges, he replied, You pay this one, without explanation. My father only made payments because ****** told him toand he trusted him. At no point was it made clear to my father that he had signed a 25-year financial agreement.****** pressured my father to digitally sign paperwork on his iPad during a home visit, stating it was just a routine approval for the government program. My parents were unaware that this was legally binding. We only learned the truth after I translated a stack of documents that ****** had printed and left at the house. Thats when we discovered my father had unknowingly entered a long-term contract with escalating payments each year. This situation is the result of misrepresentation, lack of informed consent, and targeting of a vulnerable senior citizen. My father lives on a fixed income and would never have agreed to these terms had they been presented in a language he understood. We have filed complaints with the ***** FTC, and EverBright. We now ask Bright Planet Solar to take full accountability for the actions of their representative and work with EverBright to cancel this contract, which was not entered into knowingly or lawfully.Business Response

Bright Ops had sales associates going door to door selling solar units in 2024. I spoke to ******* ****** their sales associates in my area and explained to him that we had a previous consultation but were told that based off our houses position we would not be able to produce enough energy. ******* insisted that his company uses engineers who would be able to determine if I would produce enough power and that they would not for go any installation of I would not be able to produce enough energy based off my usage bill from eversource. The unit was installed in 2024 and I am yet to produce enough power to supply my home entirely. I have been left paying everbright who is the solar companys financier and eversource with no reduction in my bill. I spoke to ***resentatives from both organizations and I was told by the bright ops *** that my usage doubled from 2023, even though they sent out a company to ensure that the houses power is being managed as efficiently as possible but also, the solar panels have yet to produce the amount of power that they built the system to produce. The system is producing less than 50% of the power it was built to produce based off of their engineers evaluation and the info provided by **********. I would like to be let out of that contract because I do not see any resolution because the panels will never produce the energy they informed us they would produce. It is unfair for me and my family to trust the word of who we believed were professionals to deceive us into signing a contract when they knew we would not produce enough energy. Keep in mind this is the summer time when you would expect solar panels to maximize output. The panels are not producing anything near our initial consumption.Business Response

I had taken over lease when we purchased our home in November. We had to put a new roof on in May so we had panels removed and reinstalled after roofing project was done. The system was not re-connected properly and had not been working until I was able to get someone out in middle of July. Now Im finally being sent a disclosure so that I can get solar credits from electric company, a mere 8 months into taking over the lease on the system. Now the problem is the disclosure has the old owners name and I have asked 6 times to get it changed so that I can sign. Every time I get an email asking to sign paperwork the name is not changed and Im still not receiving any credits from electric company.Business Response

******,
Thanks for reaching out about the issue. I will address this with the Interconnection team handling the documents. A service transfer is a bit messy, and with different names and owners in a rapid succession errors are bound to take place. This will be resolved shortly.

January 2024 signed a contract for a complete solar system to be installed. Bright solar Planet was selected by ************* to be the sub contractor and responsible for all installation. Bright planet solar installed my system in March of 2024. First time installation was attempted the ********** told me the engineering plans were not correct. Second attempt they went ahead and installed the system but didn't have the proper permit for the revised engineering plans. Months went by with no action. There was no effective communication. In addition I tried to tell the ********** then customer support that they only connected one of my sub panels enegetizing my home. This was promised to me during contract negotiations. The ********** didn't have any information about a second sub panel. Several more months go by and I called ******* my electric provider. I was told that a intent to go solar was not requested. Meantime I'm trying to escalate the issues. But can't get past customer support. And ********************** does not have any local office phone numbers listed. More time goes by and they call for state inspection. They failed State inspection and one of the reasons was incorrect permits. In addition as noted by the state inspector second sub panel was not connected In addition I was told they would put in a new sub box replacing the existing two. More time goes by and many attempts to connect the second sub panel failed. During that period I was told by two different **********s my battery was dead not charging, then a third ********** came out and told me it was working. Then another attempt to connect second sub panel failed and that ********** told me 9 of my 19 solar panels are working. Then I was told they are working. In all it been 18 months since I signed the contract and ************************************************************************ state approved, second sub panel is not connected and I'm not connected or approved by my power companyBusiness Response

6 of my solar panels stopped working in October 2024. I immediately notified bright ops and was told they would send someone out. No one came out. This happened several more times and finally came to my house in January. They claimed they repaired the panels but the panels still did not work. I called again and spoke to a supervisor and he said they would reimburse me for my solar payments for the months the panels did not work and would send someone out again to fix the panels. That was a lie. No one came out and I was never reimbursed any money. I called back again and spoke to a different supervisor (Matt G*****) and he apologized and told me they would reimburse me for the last 6 months of payments cause we were now in April. That was another lie. They never reimbursed me or fixed the panels. I have everything documented in email. The supervisors will no longer return my calls or emails. We are now going on ten months. I dont know what else I can do.Business Response

I purchase the house from my dad. My dad sign with bright side solar. He did that knowing I was going to purchase house from him and I charge my ***** from home. He already have *** *** as one of the solar company. He was paying reup about 1000 to 2000. End of the year around February. He talk to a sales person from Brightside solar. They ensure they where going to add enough panel where he was only going to pay Brightside. And it was a easy process. Plug and play like the salesman stat. They where going to add enough panel so my parent could live comfortably with ac on with out paying to much on utilities. Future forward its been over 3 1/2 years I still pay for bright side solar and system is still not on. And on top of that I been paying 3000 to 5000 a year for reup. It really hard to get a hold of anyone.Business Response

*****,
Thanks for reaching out here on your fathers project. This project have some unforeseen expenses that you might not be aware of. The electrical service to the home is an underground service, and the house required a Main Panel Upgrade, and a Transformer Upgrade in your neighborhoods to meet updated codes for solar and its production and backfeed to the grid. With both of these mandatory upgrades the costs and timeline quickly went out of scope. Transformer upgrades with PGE can take up to 18 months, and an additional 6 to 10 months for them to complete the underground service run to the home. And that is a timeline that we cannot control it is 100% on the utility. In addition where the costs of those upgrades witch totaled $20050.00 which we incurred and did not pass onto your father's agreement. (I have attached your dads agreement to this response.)
The MPU was just finished on the 24th, and we are finally near the end of the project to get this turned on. I have reached out to the field to expedite your project to get to final inspection. Please be patient a bit longer, it is almost done, and we have absorbed those extra costs so your dad did not have to.Initial Complaint

I have working with this company for 9 months trying to get solar installed. They had the 90% installed and during the final grounding they arc'd inside my main panel causing damage and subsequently blowing a transformer that provided 66 homes with power. PG@E restored power 12hrs later after ***lacing 75k transformer. This happened at the end of January of this year. Also I was promised and 72 hr battery and a new main panel. I have been working with my sales *** ****** who has been very cooperative, yet it's been 6 months and still my main panel has not been ***laced/fixed and no new 72hr battery has been installed. The only perequesite I have is that they arrive and do all the work in one day, since I live on a zero lot line lot my neighbors garden gets trampled every time they show up to do work. Be advised that Bright Ops continually calls and text me to set up appointments for work to be done, but when I ask for the scope of work that is to be completed the scheduler never knows or only includes fixing the panel and not the 72hr battery. They arrived May ******* to do the work but they neglected to bring an electrician to ***lace the main panel so I sent them away. Also be advised that BrightOps has been to my property at 6 times in the last 9 months and still the work is not complete. I would prefer for them to ***lace my main panel and remove all solar equipment from my property immediately , so I can have a ***utable company come and install a solar system that I actually meets my needs. I have documented proof of all the conversations and meetings and are available upon request. I have had more than my share of conversations with Bright Ops and given them more then enough time for them to rectify the issue and I am completely done with these clowns posing as a business.Business Response

Mrs. *****,
Thanks for reaching out again on this project. We are disputing the facts you have raise in this complaint as we did with your **** complaint you made earlier in the year, which the case has been closed.
Your agreement was signed on 1/29/2024, and your installation date for the equipment was on 3/19/2024. Legally you have a minimum 10 days to cancel the contract, but we let you cancel the agreement until installation has been started. You also agreed to the installation on 2/29/2024 on a recorded phone line. You had ample time to review your documents, and cancel the project. A copy of your agreement with Everbright was sent to your email, and you signed the document stating you understood the agreement, and agreed to a digital contract. I will be attaching a copy of that here along with the CA CPUC agreement agreeing to the conditions.
We did not sell you the contract as we are the installation company so we cannot comment on what happened in the home. However we can prove with the documents you signed, and the recorded phone calls you agreed to the terms. As an adult you need to review your contract and be aware of your rights and responsibilities of what you signed.
We understand that you are not happy, however we are just abiding by the agreement you sign and agreed to.

Worst experience of my life. Installation was done in October 2024 and still nothing is hooked up. They came on the rainiest day to install solar and assured us everything would be fine. They assured us they would make it look good. They put 7 huge metal things on the ***** of our house, the side that faces the street. Every other house in the history of solar has all that ugly stuff on the side of their house. They completely defaced our home and made it look industrial. And it has a huge footprint. Ive looked at all the other peoples solar in the surrounding area, everyone elses battery and electrical component stuff is much more compact and again, in their side yard. They argued with us for months about moving it. They finally agreed and the work order said move it to anywhere the homeowner wants. When they got here (now May 2025), the worker bees said they were unable to move it to our first and second choice locations, despite the fact that we had been previously told the first choice location was okay. They did a sloppy job moving it and were super disrespectful. They left their garbage from lunch all over our driveway, a bunch of random metal pieces in our lawn and tons and tons of screws on our driveway where we park our cars! We called to complain and havent heard back from them. That was like 2 weeks ago. The sales woman, ****, is really good at her job and reassured us so many times about so many concerns we have, but now that the contract is signed she hardly gets back to us. When she was trying to make the sale, she would hit us up multiple times a day and assured us if there were any issues, shed be our go-to person unless Im dead she said. She is alive and well but isnt interested in helping us. They also cracked a beam in our roof when they initially installed the panelsBusiness Response

I have so many issues with this company "Bright Planet Solar", who apparently works with "Everbright solar"" that it's just ridiculous. First issue, they have our signatures on a contract that we never signed or seen. It says it was docu-signed but yet we never received any receipt of that in our emails, 2nd, we were lied to about the cost of the system, was told somewhere around ****** to buy the system outright which I intended on doing if it worked like the salesman assured us it would, but after demanding to see the contract that we supposedly signed it states that the system is ******* and can't be purchased until after 5 years!!, 3rd, we were told it would produce enough power to eliminate our ************ bill which it hasn't done so now I'm supposed to pay 2 different companies a month for electric, 4th, they scammed my girlfriend into signing something and now it states on the "contract" that she is a co-signer to all this and our sending her monthly bills as well as me, 5th, they damaged my roof, and last but not least, It now shows that there is a lien on my home in both of our names, (this is my home and not my girlfriends.) which I'm in the process of trying to sell! I refuse to pay the monthly bill they are demanding because I never signed any contract with them and now it's threatening to ruin both of our credits!!Business Response

Complaint: 23309241
I am rejecting this response because: yes we did speak at length and after I explained the numerous problems in this situation from the forged signature to the faulty equipment and to the damages done to my property, roof, and car and got no response. I also explained to Mrs. ***** that not only had I never seen a contract but that I had never intended on leasing anything because as I explained to Mrs. ***** and I explained to the salesrep I was only interested in purchasing the system outright and I had been adimittent about this from the beginning and not to mention the system is still not running. After finding my situation to be utterly ridiculouse I did some research on my own and found that this company has been sued in many states for the exact same thing that is happening to me. Even the attorney general of *********** has filed a lawsuit against them as well. I don't know why California or any other state would give a license to a company to do business by defrauding the public. Their salesmen are con artists and their actions are absoultely preditorial. I am fortunate enough to have the funds to sue these people which I am in the process of doing but what about all the people who can not afford to defend themselves. So to wrap it up all I wanted was to pay cash for a solar system at the price I was told at ****** by the salesrep instead I got half a system that still don't operate, a damaged roof, a damaged car, an illegal lien on my home, and somehow I'm in a 25 year fraudulent contract that on it's own is the worse contract I have ever seen,(which I just seen a week ago) absoulte theft! You people should be ashamed of yourself.
Sincerely,
