01/03/22- I requested a quote for a home renovation project from G & O via their website. The scope of the project included structural work for opening two load bearing walls in my home, updated electrical work, adding new outlets and lighting wiring in porch-to-be dining room, and moving a staircase 2 ft. 02/03/22- I was sent a formal quote for the project (attached). As insisted by Ted from G & O in response to my inquiry of permit responsiblity at the consulation visit (myself or G & O), the quote reiterates that G & O will pull permits through the town of Ware in order to complete the project. 02/09/22- I signed a contract in person with Ted from G & O which included the scope of work and details of specific materials to be used. I then met the team which would be completing the project. Thereafter, the construction work began in the home. 02/21/22- As work was conducted in my home, I messaged Ted and requested how to recieve copies of the permits pulled. I was expecting permits for both the structural work as well as permits for the electrical work performed. Ted responded that he was not sure if the company had in fact pulled permits for the job. Confused, I asked why that would be the case, as I was under the impressions permits were necessary for all work they were completing. 02/26/22-I contacted Ted again requesting details of the permit, to which he confirmed that no permits had been pulled for the project and confirmed simply deducting permit costs from the final payment. Work to be completed as detailed by quote and contract was not fulfilled. Structural beams are significantly smaller than stated in contract. Some of structural work holding up beams are not attached in anyway, no nails, screws, etc. Severe concerns regarding load bearing support. Junction box left in wall where updates intended, wires wedged between wall and studs. Town building commissioner confirmed no permits requested by G&O. Inspections to be completed and work must be redone.

Business Response /* (1000, 10, 2022/04/21) */ In a nutshell, we at G & O strive for customer service and satisfaction. We perform a lot of work on people's homes and businesses so things do fall between the cracks (rarely but it happens), but we are always there to support our customers and rectify any legitimate issues or concerns without hesitation. We have been in business just shy of 10 years and have never had a negative review because of our customer service and satisfaction first policy. I was made aware of this complaint by surprise as this particular client didn't convey any concerns or complaints to our company via phone or email to our office. Normally in our experience, if there was a concern with a project this would be conveyed to us so we can identify the problem if any, and come up with a solution. We actually have verbal reports from lead carpenters stating that she was very happy and also text messages from her to the estimator assigned stating that "they can't say enough good things about the gentlemen that have been working here". This is Ver Batum. Regardless, this client requested that one of estimators come out for a potential project. We sent the estimator out, they drew up a scope of work, and a contract was signed and work was completed to my knowledge and paid in full by the client. This was not a normal project. This client had already started work and demolition on her own. Next I received a call and email from the BBB. To my surprise was the complaint. I immediately tried to contact his customer via telephone, left a voicemail stating that we would be happy to come out and take a look at any issues and rectify any concerns with you asap. She responded via phone about a week later and I then extended the same amicable solution to her of coming out to inspect the work personally and to rectify any issues in reference to our contracted work at her convenience. The client seemed receptive to this at this time. Then I received another call from her a few days later where she was not interested in that solution and was requesting financial reimbursement at a greater amount than the contract was originally. My response to that was "ok, that may be a solution but we still need to inspect the work performed by our company and determine that this is an appropriate solution, we need to make sure that what we did was either incorrect or not in the scope of the contract or what the issue actually is." I am now concerned that the client may have mistaken something that we did because it seemed like they were doing some work on there own not as professional contractors. We are still ready, willing, and able to rectify any issues with this particular customer regarding work pertaining to our contract.
