We hired **** **** for minor trim damage on our house. As he was doing trim work he claimed to find water damage around the entire house and convinced us we needed to strip down to the wood. We created a contract for the initial work of stripping the house. After that was done he continued to find "issues" with the house that were later told to us didn't exist by other contractors - for example ripping out the slider door to the back porch due to water damage. We were trying to collect insurance money due to ice dams and Paul took it upon himself to talk to our insurance adjuster and company and told us "once the settlement is done, I will take the money and use it for your house so I don't need to keep coming back to you for money." He offered to break the kitchen granite in order for us to get extra money for the kitchen. As he continued to rip apart our house he would ask for advances on payment. We gave him these as we didn't know it was not the norm. He asked us for $20,000 for siding material, said he ordered from Seattle. When we asked for a receipt for the material he provided an invoice with the contact of the supplier crosse out. When we asked him for the supplier info he said "it's none of your ******* business". As all of this was happening he also lost 3 of his 4 crew members (all members of his family) and made constant excuses on why he had to skip days. After doing the initial ripping off of the siding he did not return to work for a month. He talked a good game and unfortunately tricked us into giving him $50,000 total. Come to find out he never even pulled a work permit as he said he did and collected money for. When we pressed him to finish the work, he demanded us to sign an additional contract for $150,000 saying he would not return to work if we did not. Meanwhile the original contract was not even fully fulfilled. He was looking to extort us for even more money. We were left with a house that had no siding or tyvek for months before findin
