Good if you want to open up a policy I guess but horrible experience to cash out a policy. I have several policies with them including a paid up whole life policy which I've owned for 35+ years that I finally got around to cashing out. What an awful experience trying to do so. Filled out an online form and supposed to take 7-10 biz days to process. Waited 10 biz days, nothing. So I called and they told me wait a few more days b/c they are so incredibly busy. I waited a few more days, nothing. So I called again. Was on hold for 40 minutes before the low-level person who answered the phone could get in touch with a supervisor. Supervisor told her that they are waiting for my last payment on the policy to process then they will issue me a check. Hmmm. I made my last payment on that policy like 20+ years ago. They must just have a list of lines/excuses to give customers. I'm still on hold waiting to talk to someone...been over an 1.25 hours. STAY AWAY from this garbage company.

Dear ************************,Thank you for sharing your experience, and we're glad you were able to connect with our service representative. We sincerely apologize for the extended wait time you encountered when trying to speak with a supervisor. This is not the level of service we strive to provide, and we appreciate your patience as we worked to address your concerns. Were pleased to confirm that your funds have been deposited into your bank account, and were glad to hear that the account information we had on file was accurate. We understand that the processing time took longer than expected, and we are truly sorry for the frustration this caused. Regarding your experience, we have addressed the situation internally to ensure that such long hold times do not occur again. While this is not typical of our customer service, we are committed to improving our processes to better serve our valued customers like you. We appreciate your understanding and hope that this resolution has helped to restore your trust in us. If you have any further questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out. We value your long-standing relationship with SBLI and hope to continue serving you in the future.Sincerely,Customer Service Team, **********************

I would avoid SBLI life insurance at all costs. My Dad insured my Mom many years ago via a small $2000 policy. He put it on a monthly autopay ($33/month for over 10 years). Apparently, he negelected listing a beneficiary properly we are told. SBLI will not send us a copy of the policy or history. My Dad was a Navy war hero who survived driving landing craft for the beach invasions at Tarawa, Peleliu, Iwo Jima, Guadalcanal, and his ship was sunk by kamikazes. However, being a elderly Vet, he wasn't good handling insurance matters nor did SBLI provide him proper guidance, apparently. They just collected payments monthly long after my Dad passed and also long after the policy was paid in full. My mom recently passed year later and I discovered the autopays and SBLI insurance, as my ********* had never mentioned it to the kids. After speaking to SBLI they noted the policy was "overpaid" by $700 and was in goodstanding. However, they are refusing to pay the policy benefits to my mother's estate, because she has already passed. My mom lived in ** where probate is not required for a very small estate like hers. SBLI knows requiring ******* probate to payout this policy would cost more than the policy is worth. SBLI won't even return the $700 overpayment that was made, which wasn't legally SBLI's money or part of the policy cost. Of course, sueing would cost far more than $700.One of the SBLI customer service reps was very nice and told us the same thing happened to her when her mom passed. Avoid this company as they will do anything to avoid paying out to claims & they are very skilled at dodging claims!
