I hired Chris Youngsma, First Class Building LLC in early February of 2023 for a demolition and clean up of my 3 stall garage. He signed a contract and took my deposit by check of 2,160.00. I originally wrote the check in his business name but he asked for a second check to be written to his name a few days later, siting problems with the bank, which cleared my account on 2/10/23. The job was never even started. I asked for updates several times, before asking for my money back, after 6 months had passed. He still has not returned my money and this is September 25th.Customer Answer

I reached out to Chris Youngsma and he responded on 9/27/23 that he would have the money by the end of the following week. This did not occur, and I have not gotten any of my money back to date. I have reached out to him again as of last week requesting the money, but he hasn't responded further.Initial Complaint

We hired Amos (Chris) Youngsma on March 5,2023. Using his joist app for estimating, we paid a deposit that was requested in the amount of $5,025. He never bought materials for the job that we saw and he never stepped foot on the property after the deposit was made. After multiple attempts to get him to come and do the job, we decided to pull the job and request deposit back. He has not given it back to this date. He attempted to on May 25th but the refund got rejected by ******. He then said he would get a cashiers check but then excuses came and he has still not given us the money back.Business Response

I signed a contract with First Class Building LLC to completely demolish and renovate my small, fire-damaged bungalow on March 3, 2022. The project was scheduled for completion by October of 2022. After almost 6 months of being told "one more week...one more week," the contractor, Chris Y, has stopped coming to the job site altogether, leaving a long list of work yet to be done. Hes been paid in full for the project, drastically mismanaging $236,000 of my money. Additionally, theres evidence he forged permits and severely compromised quality at every turn, which has left me with an unfinished, possibly unsafe living space.Current state of project:- No occupancy permit: Insurance ceased paying for temporary housing, forcing me into the home in February with no completion date in sight.- Items remaining undone: basement insulation and removal of fire debris; exterior deck and porch, siding/shingles; bulkhead door replacement; interior stairway; upstairs carpeting; kitchen cabinet doors; purchase/install bathtub and fixtures; install bathroom door; numerous other finishing details and touch-ups. - Non-compliant construction: Ive since had trusted professionals come in and tell me things are not to code, most of the bathroom needs to be entirely redone and I should take legal action against First Class Building. (Quoted by a reputable contractor at $28,000 to fix and finish everything).- Possible fraud: Y pulled and signed electrical/plumbing permits in my name without my consent, but included his own contact information. I suspect he did the work himself, without hiring licensed professionals. I reached out to Y on March 20, 2023 to share my dissatisfaction with the entirety of the project, the quality of the work, and to demand accountability for completing my home. He acknowledged the poor job hes done, claiming hes run out of money and will likely file bankruptcy/dissolve his company. He has now since stopped responding to messages.Business Response

This was not written by the homeowner and has several false claims in it. I am more than willing to accept responsibility for any wrong doings by myself and first class building. But I will not be falsely accused by someone whom I have never met and obviously didn't get their facts straight before writing this. The permits they claimed were fraudulently pulled where not and there was a discussion between the homeowner and I prior to pulling them explaining how I was having trouble getting contractors from Connecticut to come out, so if we pulled permits as the homeowner I could have my mass licensed contractors come. Which is exactly what we did. The homeowner met the plumbers and electricians so the suspicion that I "did the work myself" is completely false. I do not do electrical or plumbing work under any circumstancesCustomer Answer

Complaint: ********
I am rejecting this response because:'There are no false claims in that report. [Homeowner] asked you a minimum of 3 times directly for the names/information of the electrician and plumber and you ignored her, never sharing the information (Per text on March 5). What was reported is to the best of [the homeowners] knowledge and assumptions based on the information you provided her and the outcome of the job. You refused to come to an in-person meeting where many of these details could have been sorted through. Send us the information of those professionals who will take responsibility for the work done in that house, and we will adjust the report accordingly.'
There has been no follow-up from ******** to address this message. Nothing has been shared that changes the validity of the BBB complaint.
Sincerely,

I hired **** *************************** (D/B/A First Class Building and Remodeling) in June 2022 to build a two-story addition to my home in ********, **. The total contract price was $191,627 (Exhibit A) and I paid ******************** a substantial sum of money upfront ($86,232) to start the job (Exhibit B). Unfortunately, no work began for several months. There were endless delays, bizarre excuses, and shocking mistakes observed. An excavator eventually showed up in September to dig the hole for my foundation. The hole then sat dormant December, because ******************** claimed he could not find a subcontractor to do the foundation work.******************** eventually found a company and they completed the footings on Dec 9th. The job paused again for nearly an entire month. Upon speaking with the subcontractor to ask about the unusual delays. I learned that Mr. ********* checks had bounced, and they would not finish the foundation until they received payment. As of today, my foundation is incomplete (Exhibit C) and I will need to intervene and pay the subcontractor nearly $16,000 to finish it, as ******************** is avoiding our calls and appears not to have any of our money ($86,232) left. To make matters worse, I learned that ******************** does not even hold the type of license required (CSL) to perform this job. We also discovered that ******************** used unlicensed subcontractors to perform electrical and plumbing work on our home. At that point, we decided to terminate our contract with ******************** immediately. We now need to hire licensed professionals ourselves to ensure the work performed meets building code standards, and that our home is safe for us and our small children. Needless to say, my family and I have suffered a substantial loss of time and money as a result of Mr. ********* unethical, irresponsible, and potentially illegal business practices, and we are seeking a refund for all unused monies paid to him, as well as reimbursement for any work that fails to meet the code.Business Response

There is a lot of false information provided here. The electrical contractor used is in fact a licensed electrician. First class building does in fact have a licensed construction supervisor ( a couple of them actually) they illegally terminated the contract as it was backed by my hic license.(which is being brought to court) they sent 93a demand claiming falsely that I held myself out to be a csl holder (which I do have in ct and Rhode Island) yet they never even asked about it. I've never avoided any of their phone calls. I've always been available to them via phone or messenger. They did not have to "seek out new professionals" as they hired a contractor I had introduced them to for a separate part of the project at their home.
