      I have to report fraudulent billing activity from Baystate ************** regarding a bill for labs my wife ********************************* had performed at Baystate *********** in ***********, ** on 8/22/22 & 11/2/22. The labs on 11/2/22 totaled $543 and after my insurance company Anthem BC/BS processed this claim for their preferred provider I owed $11.56. On 3/21/23 I called Baystate **** **** at ************ and spoke to someone named ****. I asked **** why they are billing me since I already paid them. I told **** that on 1/18/23 I paid them a check for $11.56. **** said they never received the check and wanted to know if my bank cleared it. I told **** that her company cashed Check #*** on 1/23/23. **** said she has sent the bill over for further investigation and it would take 30 to 60 days to respond to me. I informed **** that I would not be paying anything further since I had already paid what I owed. The second problem on this bill was for labs performed for my wife on 8/22/22 at Baystate **** Center in ***********, **. The labs totaled $78 and after my insurance company processed the claim I owed $1.58. However, Baystate **** **** billed me $60.44. I asked **** why they were overbilling me when according to explanation of benefits I received from Anthem BC/BS, I only owed $1.54. I informed **** that they are violating the contractual agreement they have with this preferred provider since they are billing me more than what my responsibility is. **** put me on hold and when she came back told me to disregard this bill, without any explanation as to why I should. I informed **** that I never disregard any bills, and that I would be contacting the BBB for this suspicious billing. Personally, I have been an Investigator for 25 years, including 6 years previously as Investigator for a local Insurance company's Special Investigations Unit. It was a common response whenever someone was caught performing fraudulent billing, to tell the person to disregard the bill.
