I contacted AC Home Improvement via the Thumbtack app seeking help with a joist that needed repair. ************************* replied to my inquiry and came out to my home to assess the job.On 8/24/2023, ************************* and I signed a contract for the installation of a french drain and the repair of a floor joist. The total cost of the work to be performed was $5,875.00. This amount included labor/materials and permit fees as permits were to be pulled by *******************. The agreement specified for "1/2 down at signing of contract. Not reimbursable - customer will pay with check". The amount of $2900 was paid by check. ******************* and his associate arrived at my home at 10:14am and entered my basement. At approximately 11am ******************* indicated that they were going to get a saw. ******************* was gone for over 4 and a half hours. He returned at 3:40pm and began work on my basement. At approximately 4:45pm ******************* approached me and indicated that there had been an error in the quote process and instead of $5,875.00 the quote should have been in the amount of $15,875.00. He said that he had incorrectly accounted for the cost of concrete. ******************* indicated that we could either work things out or he could bring me a check the next day and refund my deposit. I told ******************* that I was uncomfortable with the price he was asking and he indicated that he would go home and see if it was possible to do the job for the quoted price and if not he would bring me a refund the next day.******************* took a deposit for work that he has now declined to perform. He has violated our written agreement by failing to obtain permits. He has damaged my floor and done so without a permit.
