    On June 6th 2024 I dropped off my vehicle, to have mechanical work done at Teele Square Auto, located at ************************************************. On June 7th, I was informed my vehicle was ready to be picked up. When I arrived at approximately 3:15 PM, I saw my vehicle was parked on Broadway, which is common practice for the mechanics to do in order to maximize space in the garage for cars they are actively working on. As such, I only saw my vehicle from a distance as I approached the garage's office to pay for the repairs. I paid the agreed upon sum for the mechanical repairs, and left the office to walk to my vehicle, parked on Broadway. As I approached the driver's side of my vehicle, I saw a noteable scratch and dent on the vehicle that was not present when I dropped my vehicle off the previous day. I immediately went back to the office of Teele Square Auto to inform the manager, ***** ******** of the damages and to ask for any explanation for the cause of the damage. *********** claimed to not have noticed or know how the damage occurred.. He took photos, and informed me he would inform his boss, *** ******** and the two of them would check the cameras around the shop. It appeared to me to be damage that could have easily happened in the garage, though ***** suggested the damage may have taken place on the street (Broadway) after the mechanic parked my car there. After taking photos myself, I believed they would take responsibility and compensate me for the property damage. Over the next several days I made repeated visits to Teele Square Auto to speak with *****, who told me each time that his boss, ***, was looking into it and I should try back again at a later date. On June 11th 2024 I went back again to speak with ***** and/or ***. At this time, ***** told me that Teele Square Auto would not be taking responsibility for the damages. It was his belief the damage occurred on Broadway after his mechanics had parked it there.

    Business Response

    Date: 10/28/2024

    I have complaints number ******** that was filed on 10-1-2024. So his customer was indicating that we had damaged his vehicle, but that has nothing to do with us because the customer brought his car in for engine repairs and check engine lights in the problem that he came in with and he did not leave with that problem. His problem was resolved. After we had fixed his car, we parked his car on the street, which we are allowed to do, because if customers do have Somerville parking permits, we do use the street parking, which is known by the customers that we are allowed to park their cars on the street upon fix of their vehicle and we call the customer and they know that their cars are finished and ready to be picked up. So he is claiming that that damage happened at my shop, but that is not possible because That is not the area that we were working in, we were working in the front and he is indicating there is damage on the back left of his vehicle. We cannot be held responsible for that.

    Better Business Bureau:I have reviewed the response submitted by the business and have determined that the response does not satisfy or resolve my issues and/or concerns in reference to complaint # ********. Please add your rejection comments below; if you do not provide any details, your complaint will be closed as Answered.

    Addressing the suggestion that the damage occurred on Broadway Avenue and not in the physical garage of Teele Square Auto;

    While I maintain that the damage likely did occur in the garage-as several characteristics of the dent and scratches indicate-the point is a moot one. I dropped my car off for mechanical work, and when I was told the repairs were complete I arrived to find a damaged vehicle. The car did not have a dent or scratches in that location when I dropped it off, and after two days under the care of Teele Square Auto, my car became damaged and the resale value greatly diminished.
    I asked for access to video footage the business claimed to be in possession of. I was never allowed to see this film. I received virtually zero assistance or explanation.

    Again, disregarding the probability the damage was caused by Teele Square Auto employees directly, my car was under the care of the business at the time the damage occurred. I didn't ask for my car to be parked on the street. I understand the convenience of using the road to shuffle cars in and out of the garage area. If Teele Square Auto wishes to park customer's cars on ********************** Avenue- a heavily trafficked street abbutted by smaller, less busy roads-overnight, then they should be willing to take responsibility for any damages that occur as a result.

    Businesses should have insurance to cover such cases. This decrease in value to my vehicle should be addressed and covered by the people who are responsible for the damage. I strongly believe that no matter the cause of the damage the car sustained while under your care, you should be held liable.
