I hired Asphalt Engineering (AE) in April ******************************************************************* ********* (contract price $6,695, with a 1-year limited warranty). Within months, the surface began unraveling and losing stones.I notified AE several times during the warranty period. At first I was told to wait until cooler weather, then they tried an infrared patch, later promised spring repair, and finally refused responsibility altogether. Each email or letter from AE gave me a new and different reason: first normal curing, then pooling and drainage, then sub-base we didnt install. The last excuse was factually wrong, since their own contract shows they installed the sub-base in expansions E1E3.Their president, ***** even visited the site and made commitments about addressing the defects, but AEs follow-up letters (signed by him and later by staff like ****) contradicted those commitments. At one point **** claimed unraveling was due to pooling when no such issue was ever documented. Meanwhile ***** letter offered a site inspection, but then the company continued to deny responsibility.Another red flag: ** ***** a 1-year warranty, but their staff told me asphalt takes over two years to cure. That directly conflicts with AEs own written materials (which say it can be driven on after 7 days and cures within months) and with industry standards. This position effectively makes the warranty meaningless, since any defect within a year is brushed off as still curing.I tried to work in good faith, even offering to bring in an independent engineer, but *** responses were inconsistent, contradictory, and ultimately dismissive. Less than a year after installation, I was left with a failing driveway and no warranty support.Future customers should know: AE looks professional on paper, but in my experience they did not honor their warranty, shifted their story multiple times, and contradicted their own presidents assurances.

Poor Communication, Incorrect Information, and ************************* I hired them for a $17K double driveway project, paying half upfront. From the start, I was told my town only allowed a 15 driveway opening and anything wider needed approval. They submitted a permit for 18 and said I could be on site to confirm details. When the crew arrived, the ******* measured the 18 from the street berm, which would have shifted my driveway by 4. I explained prior measurements were from inside the property line, matching the current layout, but he insisted on his method and said the town would need to move the berm. The next day, after the company left, I contacted the town engineer, who came to my property. He confirmed the opening limit is actually 24 per driveway, no approval was needed for 18, and measurements are taken inside the property lineproving the ******* wrong.A small 3x3 section of walkway bricks (about 25 bricks in sand) also needed removal. Instead of including it, the ******* demanded extrawithout saying how mucheven with a full crew and heavy equipment already there. When I said Id remove them myself, he told me I wasnt allowed in the work area once they started. When I refused to proceed without answers, the ******* left. Minutes later, the ** called, refused to hear my side, said he trusted his ******* without question, and withheld $1,800 from my deposit for schedule changes, police detail, and standby. He then hung up.While they may do good paving work for many of their customers, my experience involved misinformation, disorganization, and dismissive customer service. I would not recommend them to anyone expecting transparency, professionalism. Buyer beware! If anything goes wrong, this company shows it cannot be relied on to follow through or protect its customers.

We had Asphalt Engineering install a new driveway for us back in the Spring/Summer of 2023. They had great reviews, were recommended from a couple people close to us, and came in $1700 under what a competitor was charging, so we went with them. Big mistake. Our driveway never flooded in this one corner before, but now it floods every time it rains. When we initially told the company owner about this, they had someone come test it and they couldn't replicate the flooding problem. Well, our driveway most certainly floods and the specific corner that floods is very close to our house's foundation. Thankfully we haven't really seen a lot of snow since 2023, but fast forward to last night, 2/16/2025, when we get several inches of snow and hours of rain that follows...the flooding in that corner of the driveway is worse than we've ever seen it AND the water is now making its way up our walkway and underneath the composite steps just in front of the house. My husband had to run out to grab a pump, extension cord, and hose to help draw some of the water away from our house, along with shoveling heavy snow away from that area and bringing it closer to the road so not as much could melt next to our house. It's great having to spend even more money on the driveway and lose hours of sleep thinking that you're going to wake up to water in your basement. This company has a lot of 5 star reviews on ******, but beware because not all of the customers they've served are happy with the outcome. Over 2 years later and we're still dealing with this headache. The old driveway we had did not pool water like this, and while Asphalt Engineering did offer to come and build a trench in our yard to help with water runoff...we don't want a trench in our already tiny yard, we just wanted the job done right so that we didn't have to deal with water pooling in the first ************ learned, the cheaper option is most definitely not always the best option.
