AVOID AT ALL COSTS! After a Navien boiler for my tenant failed, I hired S.A.A.B. to do the installation work for the replacement. In addition to inflating many of the parts cost--which I'll get to in a moment, less than three years later multiple problems were discovered, much of it not up to code: 1.) In two locations, and this is Plumbing 101, they installed plugs instead of pressure relief valves which put undo pressure on the pipes and could have easily caused internal parts to fail, causing irreparable damage to the boiler.2.) Inside the boiler instead of using a proper fitting to secure two pipes, they used a clip which could have easily blown off under excessive pressure caused by having no pressure relief values and filled my basement with water 3.) A spiral vent had to be replaced and there was extensive decay on much of the piping they did. 4.) A second drain valve was not installed so that future maintenance and descaling would have required the entire system be needlessly drained to perform the work.5.) The air exhaust vent they installed went from a small PVC pipe to a larger one that essentially created an area where a pool of condensation would form. Definitely not up to code. 6.) There were numerous other things pointed out by the new company that came to repair all the damage left by S.A.A.B. And then there was the material costs for basic parts they listed, which came to $1,353.80. I took the list to a wholesale plumbing store and asked them what they would charge me, a customer off the street; not a contractor. Republic Plumbing Supply quote came to $386.85; a 350% mark-up over what I WOULD HAVE PAID as a consumer. Their actual wholesale cost would have been less than $200. I drove to their office unannounced and sat down with *******, and after much hemming and hawing she reluctantly somewhat reduced the materials cost.If I hadn't had another company fix S.A.A.B.'s work, my boiler could have been ruined. .
