My family and I decided to try this restaurant out on Mother's Day and we were also celebrating a birthday. The food was disappointing. The amount of the seafood platter was poor, in comparison to other seafood restaurants. The gumbo tasted like canned soup. However, the real spoiler was the service! We waited some time for our food, one member never received their drink, and after receiving our food we waited for utensils to be brought out, making our food cold. We also had to flag our server to address needs. When the ticket arrived, there was a gratuity charge of about $25 for our party of four adults and two children. When my mother requested that it was removed, the manager was called. She stated that it was Mother's Day and the waitress worked hard so it had to be paid. When we explained that the service was not up to par, she said she would call the police. My mom re-iterated that she would not be paying it. The manager then called law enforcement, stating that she had a customer who refused to pay her bill, which is not true. It was the gratuity that was in question. This manager appeared to be most interested in "handling us", without showing any regard for our grievances. I paid the gratuity to avoid ruining the occasion and demeaning my family as criminals. However, I highly deem it necessary to draw attention to the treatment received. I understood gratuity to be given as a token of gratitude for satisfactory services. It was my desire to "grace" the server with a tip regardless, but to require us to pay a set amount of gratuity for unfavorable services is gravely unacceptable. I deeply regret visiting this restaurant. Had I read the Google and Facebook reviews prior to our visit, I would have known to opt for some place else. In hindsight, a drive-thru window would have been a better choice. I write this review with the hopes of helping others to patron a local establishment that will value your support and treat you as such!
