When my partner and I attempted to enroll in a month-to-month plan, we were read the terms and conditions by an employee named ****** He explained to both me and my partner that it was non-binding and could be cancelled at our choosing. We both signed an electronic pad and did not have the opportunity to read what we were signing, as we trusted what we was saying. We were deceived, regardless of it being intentional or accidental. To our surprise, we later found out that we were enrolled in a 1 year minimum contract. When signing up, I explicitly explained that I would not be in the Lexington area for more than 10 months. Hence, why a year contract would be nonsensical. When attempting to withdraw from this gym, they stated we could not leave. We attempted to contact a manager. She was constantly unavailable. When we did speak to her, she claimed she could not help us in any way. We asked to speak to the owner, but we were met with a one-sided email that could NOT be responded to. There was no attempt made to establish two-way communication for the error of their employee. The owner attempted to back the employee's words and actions, though there was no other employee at that time to confirm his words. A quick review of the lower rated business reviews online will show that this is not an isolated incident. Now, the business is attempting to collect a "debt" from me for ~580 USD, though the monthly membership was 37.09. It has not even been one year since I visited the gym. I am unsure of how to start resolving this and would like for the gym to remove this insane charges. I do not use it anymore and have not used it since I requested to cancel. I refuse to pay for a service I did not use. Above all, I have been recovering from an injury, but have not had the chance to explain this to anybody at the gym. My injury would not have allowed for me to use more than half of the equipment there. These unfair charges must be removed by the gym immediately.
