I have been a member of the YMCA for over 20 years. I had a membership while in Topeka KS, Garden City KS and now I live in ********* KS. I joined the ********* YMCA in 2019. I have always enjoyed the Y, I am a Capt in the Air National Guard and need to stay in shape. I signed my youngest son up for soccer and ended up becoming the coach, as there were not enough volunteers. I have been able to used other programs and summer camps that have been provided. I have 3 biological children and 4 adopted children(their mother passed away). I am single mother and have been most of my life. My older children help with the younger children.
When I joined the ********* Y I did a family membership which I was allowed 2 adults and children under 18 years of age. I recently went in to change the other adult to my daughter who is over 18 YOA, we are really the only ones at this time that use the YMCA. I was informed that I would not be able to change the other adult to her because we were not married. I informed them that I was told 2 adults and children under 18 years of age. The CEO said that is not their policy anymore and does care that I joined wat before he changed the policy. I informed him that their web cite says 2 adults and children under 18 YOA. He said the web cite was out dated.
I have never felt more violated in my life. I am a single mom and need my adult daughter to assist me with the children. I do not believe that the ********* YMCA is in line with the YMCA mission. The CEOs actions were defiantly not in line with the YMCA Vision "A commitment to a better future — for all."
I guess that doesn't apply to single mothers in the military. The YMCA Diversity, Equity and Inclusion policy "To fulfill our purpose of strengthening community for all, the Y is committed to being an inclusive, anti-racist organization and leveraging our collective impact to address social inequities."
    Very Respectfully,
