I have had a supplement insurance through unified for 12 years. I received a letter in March saying they would no longer cover my area. I am 78 and have to have a guaranteed Id letter in order to get a new policy. I’ve called Unified for 2 months, have only been able to speak to someone 5 times. Every time they said they would pass the information to their manager. I still have not gotten my letter and now my coverage has lapsed and I cannot get another supplement without this letter.Business Response

Company refused to send me, my 1*******. I called them 7 times on Feb 4, Feb 11, and Feb 20. They told me how much money I had in there. I ask them why are they taking out money from my annuity policy to pay for my annuity policy. They said I sign a letter, which I did not. And they said they would send me another letter. And know they said they can't find my policy. But they kept sending me mail twice a month with my policy number on it.
After that only to be hung up on, put on hold. Or saying a manager will call you back, twice. Or that your 1099-INT is in the mail, twice. An know they said they can't find my policy.
It is a annuity policy. I took out in the late 1970 with ******** **** ********* ******** ****** *** ***** *** **** ** **** ******** **** ********* **** **** ** ****** *** ***** *** *** **** ** **** ******* **** ********* **** **** ** ****** *** ***** *** *'m sending you copied of 1099-INT as far back as 1994. And seven are from Unified Life Company To show you I been filing this as Interest Income every years on my taxes. Same policy no. on all three insurance company.
I wasn't able to attach all the support documents.
I'm sending you a copy of the letter when Unified Life Insurance took over my annuity policy. Saying all provisions and terms of policy remain unchanged.
I'm also copied of letters send after they couldn't find my policy.Business Response

To whom it may concern,
It has come to my attention that despite the fact that I have made good faith and timely payments to you (Unfied Life Insurance) for over a year, you are not paying a significant, or fair amount to my doctors. In fact, you have only paid $50.00 to ***** medical associates.
Obviously the person who sold me the policy misrepresented my coverage. I also never received a USPS introduction package detailing my coverage, or apparently lack there of, despite being promised by your representative that one would be sent. When I called you about this shortly after signng up for your policy, your representatives were rude and unhelpful. Eventually you stopped answering my calls or e-mails.
I believe that I was fraudulently sold a policy that would not be of any use to me, but would take my money despite this unfortunate reality.
Therefore I am requesting a complete refund of all payments with an exception of the fifty dollars that you paid ***** Medical Associates.
Your company is not accredited by the Better Business Bureau, and in fact, you have a plethora of complaints accusing you of fraud.
Please cancel my policy and return all payments. You are no longer authorized to take money from my account.

I am rejecting this response because:Unified Life has been sued by the state of Montana for this very same issue and lost. They had to pay out an eight million dollar settlement. They have a pattern and practice of defrauding consumers. I demand a full refund. I also refuse to communicate with these criminals directly.

I received a statement saying, I was not covered . But they have taken $125 out of my account each month, and are continuing to do so. I have called and left messages numerous amounts of time, but getting someone on the phone or a call back is impossible.Business Response

I was sold on the policy that I would be covered for my eye surgery. They even okayed it with my doctor's office before I could have the surgery. After the surgery, 9 months later I'm sent a notice saying they do not cover my surgery. And I am later sent a bill from my doctor's for the full bill. Now I'm in debt to doctor's. The amount I have paid to insurance company over a year and half would of paid for my surgery and the office visits.
Now to find out on their website that their system has been hacked and our information exposed to the hackers.Business Response

I have called numerous times to cancel my insurance and they simply will not do so. They offered little to no insurance while I had it. The main issue is they keep telling me to call a different number and then when I call said number they tell me to call the other number. They will not cancel my insurance. Premium amount $293.04
On January 2, I had a phone call with an insurance broker because I found out that my insurance plan premium at the time was going to be increased significantly without my knowledge or consent.
I previously had an HMO plan with a higher premium so that I wouldn't have to pay as much out of pocket. They also didn't have my Dr in network any longer and I didn't want to switch Drs. I explained all of this to the insurance broker.
His name was ***** ******* ************** *** *** and he let me know that I was in luck and I could actually get a PPO plan that was exactly the same as my current plan with the benefits and out-of-pocket costs, etc and it was much cheaper and he verified that my Dr was in network. I asked a few questions and made sure that I wouldn't be in trouble anywhere. He then asked a couple of questions like "do you need in patient mental health services or drug abuse treatment" and I told him no. He said 'okay, then you can pay even less than what I originally quoted you and have a limited plan because you don't need those services.' I asked questions about what a limited plan meant and he said it would be the exact same as I currently have, but since I won't be needing those extra services then I just wouldn't be paying to access them.
Well, lo and behold I come to find out that my limited plan is so much more limited than a normal PPO and not just in the mental health and drug abuse services (which I still do not need). Now I am paying a lot of out of pocket costs because of the deception of this insurance broker. Some claims submitted to Unified Life are coming back discounted but no payouts were made from Unified life. And some have such low payouts ($50) that it is not worth it to have insurance that I am paying monthly for. The explanation I keep getting from representatives is that it is a limited plan with limited benefits and payouts are very low even if I have a couple of Dr visits 'covered' as listed in my benefits.Business Response

I called on March 29th to make a payment (I got a new card so autopay did not go through) and stated the to representative that I wanted to pay this final charge and then cancel as I had started a new job and received insurance through them. The lady stated she would note that I wanted to cancel and requested I call back to confirm it was canceled after the month was over. I called on April 28th and the representative stated that I was cancelled and gave me the confirmation number, and I confirmed that I would not be charged that day (as payment usually occurs on the 28th/29th). I double checked again that I had been cancelled and payment would not be taken, yet I was charged anyway. I called back on 5/2 and the representative stated there were not notes I was cancelling on March 29th and they "they are required to make notes, they would have if you were cancelling", and also stated I would not be able to get a refund because they do not do that beyond month one. I already pay for my current insurance, and was charged $293 by Unified life, almost a month after I first cancelled.Business Response

I started this health insurance plan to discover it is not legitimate health plan. They do not pay on the health claims,lied, and continue to give you the run around when you ask questions on what health insurance company they go thru and does not provide a copy of the health insurance coverage or beneficiaries to life insurance plan they say is included with the health plan.Business Response
