    Deck Issues:

    1. Use of common deck screws for structural applications
    2. Metal post bases not secured to concrete
    3. Wood posts not directly supported by metal bases (gap)
    4. Two posts without proper clearance from concrete
    5. Joist not extending to beam and not nailed or sitting properly in bracket
    6. Trip hazard at top of steps from uneven flooring
    7. Beams not supported by posts
    8. Various gaps in step treads and not in contact with stringers
    9. Bottom step riser is poor and loose
    10. Inconsistent gaps in deck spindles with at least one case exceeding code
    11. Crooked cuts in top railing and not meeting posts
    12. Use of some poor quality lumber containing gouges, splits and warping
    13. Inconsistent driving of screws into wood
    14. Inconsistent and excessive gaps in deck floor
    15. Railing not meeting support and spindles
    16. No City permit or inspection obtained

    Deck is 16 years old, we’re doing only repairs, not building a new one.

    I am rejecting this response because:

    Extensive repairs
    were made to the deck including:

    New steps
    New posts
    New footings
    New floor
    New railings
    New balusters

    The only items not
    replaced were the joists/beams.

    All of the 16
    issues, described in detail with photo documentation, in the original complaint
    pertain directly to work performed by F & J Services.  They have failed to address any of these
    items and we do not understand the relevance of the age of the original deck.

    Considering the
    severity and quantity of workmanship and safety issues we documented, F &
    J’s response is woefully incomplete and immaterial. If they are unwilling to
    refund the full amount paid and are obviously ignoring the substance of this
    complaint, we will be proceed with civil litigation.
