I went for an eye exam on 12/11/2024 at Crawford Family Eyecare. I was told by my primary care doctor to request a diabetic eye exam. In my previous 6 years of having a diabetic eye exam done, my exams were always covered by my eye insurance. The only thing different for a diabetic eye test is the scanning of the back of the eye, which I have always paid out of pocket, since it is only $40. The lady at the front counter asked for my medical insurance card, which I thought was strange. My eye insurance is through ******, and I called ****** to make sure I was covered since their portal was down. While on the phone with ******, they called Crawford Eyecare to explain to them I was covered, and just to submit the claim by paperwork. ****** assured me I was covered and it would be taken care of. Crawford Eyecare submitted my exam and testing to my medical insurance for some unknown reason, and the claim was denied. I wrote an e-mail to Crawford Eyecare that they needed to retract the claim, and submit the claim through ******. I have never heard anything back from Crawford Eyecare. Now my medical insurance is wanting me to pay $245.26 for the service, which should have been covered at a cost of $0 to me if they would have submitted the claim correctly, I e-mailed Crawford Eyecare the information about submitting the claim through ******, but they chose to ignore my request to recall the $245.26 through my medical insurance. I have never had this kind of issue with an eye doctor before. I want Crawford Eyecare to submit the claim properly, or they can pay the $245.26. Why would medical insurance cover an eye exam when I have eye insurance???
