I hired Chris to help remodel my basement beginning approximately April of 2024 and it was scheduled to be finished June 2024. We had an oral contract with some details of numbers written in paper. We also had specific texts regarding the contract. Chris ended up charging more as the project continued, in which I even agreed too, but when I made one of my last progress payments he quit showing up at my home. I have grossly overpaid him for the work that is still left to be completed. I have mitigated some of my damages by not paying his subcontractor bill but the work that needs to be completed still FAR exceeds the remaining balance. I will work to collect the money through court, but I believe he is state licensed and insured and I believe he should not continue to do this to other persons. I have direct knowledge of at least two other families in which he stole and cheated from, and he currently has a court case against him in Johnson County (that insurance had to make a settlement on) for similar issues. He should not be allowed to continue to be licensed and do this to other people. He quit communicating with me and my basement still has to be completed. Any additional evidence needed by BBB can be provided to defend my entire statement.

    Business Response

I have been willing to finish the job (which is 70% complete) once the customer honors her commitment to pay the sheetrock bill, which was due back in June. That is the sole reason for work stoppage at this point. There was a delay at the beginning of June which was explained and communicated.

I think at this point this would best be settled in court. This customer is attempting to avoiding paying a debt she owes fairly. Furthermore claiming I am "stealing" from people is libelious and inflammatory as well as untrue. There is no current lawsuit against my company.

Finally this would be the fourth or fifth remodeling project I have done on this property for this person. She is upset over the delay and attempting to avoid paying what is owed. The others all were completed quite satisfactorily. In attempting to give her a deal I have apparently misrepresented what things really cost. The total amount given was around $8800 and the basement has been demolished, framed, wired, plumbed, sheetrocked and finished, and the ceilings painted and walls primed. These tasks have a market value of closer to $20k for the 850 sf size of the space. If anything I am owed more above what has been paid in addition to the money owed the sheetrock company.

There will most certainly be no refunds of any kind and I will pursue payment fpr my subcontractor through all legal means available.
