If I am showing any disrespect, it is due to my frustration with dealing with this. You put the repair off several days, and then did not show up on the day that you told me that you would be there. When you do show up, you did not replace the 4x4 post which is what I had communicated to you originally. When you came back the second time, you again were not installing a 4x4 post and had planned on putting shims in place. This is unacceptable as I have stated several times.

This does not have to be complicated. Come by my house, replace the 4x4 post, make sure that it is level, and put the mailbox back on.

      Sincerely,

      ***** ********

      Business Response

On March 7, 2025, one of my drivers attempted to deliver woodchips as a courtesy after the complainant expressed interest. He asked for the material to be dumped in the yard, but due to soft ground conditions, my driver made the professional judgment not to risk tearing up the lawn. While exiting, the truck lightly bumped the mailbox, which was originally mounted on a rotting 4x4 post.

When I was notified of the damage, I took full responsibility and went out personally to fix the mailbox at no cost. We installed a heavy-duty metal mailbox spike that goes three feet into the ground—stronger and more durable than a standard wooden post—and reused the remaining portion of his existing post to mount the box for a clean appearance. The complainant called again and said that the mailbox was wobbling. I personally went out to assess the damage and offered to repair the mailbox at no charge.  At the time of installation, the mailbox was secure but required minor shimming to eliminate some minor movement.

When I returned to complete the adjustment, the homeowner cut me off mid-sentence, began cussing, and demanded I rip it out and install a new 4x4 post or “do nothing.” He then stormed inside the house, ending the conversation. At that point, I made the decision to leave. I will not tolerate being disrespected while attempting to resolve a minor issue that I had already made every reasonable effort to correct—again, at no cost to him.

We attempted in good faith to resolve the issue quickly, professionally, and at no cost to the homeowner. I am still willing to fix the wobble (which will straighten the mailbox.)  But I will need respectful and open communication in order to do so. Otherwise, I consider this matter closed.

      Mr. *********
I understand your continued frustration, but I need to clarify a few key points.
At no point did I avoid addressing the issue. I havent been to your house twice, as you previously stated. I dispatched a fence repairman we occasionally use and a supervisor at my company to your property promptly. After you called in again, I came out to your property in order to deescalate the situation and ensure the stability of the mailbox. The heavy-duty metal stake we installed goes 3 feet into the ground and offers greater durability than a standard 4x4 post. Your mailbox was made fully functional and upright, and I had planned to shim it for additional stability. However, you refused to let me finish and instead responded with profanity and demands.

Out of professionalism and respect for your property, I chose to leave rather than escalate the situation.
To be clear: I will not be removing the metal stake, as it provides a stronger and more permanent foundation than a buried 4x4. Those metal stakes cost $50 verses a $10 4x4 post, I was in no way trying to short change you on the repairs. However, I am willing to replace the rotted wooden portion of the original post with a new 3-foot 4x4, properly secured to the metal stake, and make sure the mailbox is level and stable. This is a reasonable and lasting solution.

Our company made every reasonable effort to promptly and effectively resolve the issue despite the complainant's behavior. It should also be noted that, legally, when a driver accidentally hits a mailbox, they are responsible for the repair costs, provided the mailbox meets **** standards and is properly installed. In this case, we took accountability and exceeded what is typically expected by addressing the damage without delay or charge.

The only reason this became an issue in the first place is because the original mailbox post was not the correct material and it was not properly installed in the ground. An untreated 4x4 post was placed in the ground, which over time rotted and decomposed causing the mailbox to lose its integrity A slight bump proved this because a sturdy 4x4 post would have bent at an angle rather than snapping at the base of the ground. We remain open to rectifying this issue further by replacing the rotted portion of the original post with a new 3-foot 4x4, securely mounted to the existing heavy-duty metal stake. This is a reasonable and lasting solution, but any further work will require respectful and constructive communication from the complainant moving forward. If not, I consider our attempts to resolve this in good faith to be exhausted.
      Sincerely,
      *****

Please come by and repair the mailbox the way you have stated. I do expect the mailbox to be stable and level. If this does not occur, then I will be unable to accept the results. I am not trying to be difficult; I just expect the mailbox to be the same as to prior to your truck hitting it.

      Sincerely,
