On April 20, 2023, H&K Tree Service representative/owner ********************, quoted a sum of $1500.00 to remove a tree in my back yard. He (*******************) requested a $720.00 deposit. Agreed to the quote and paid him by check (written to H&K Tree Service. The check posted on April 21, 2023. ******************* set a date for the next Tuesday April 25th. 2023. He did not show. Since then, through text messages, it has been excuse after excuse with no show though the first week of May. I have continued to contact him through the end of May with no response. At this point, I feel I have been scammed. All I want is my $720.00 deposit back. Probably not going to happen.Initial Complaint

******************* is an ******* professional fiduciary company serving as Trustee for a trust-owned home in *************. We learned that a tree was dangerously at risk of falling on the home. H&K Tree Service (H&K) provided a quote, in writing, to remove the ************ for $4,300. In the home lives a newly-widowed 80-year old woman. Our fiduciary duty is to protect her home by paying for needed repairs and maintenance. We told ********************* of H&K to perform the work. He requested payment of $4,300 in full prior to starting. We complied immediately. He gave us a ********** account number, and we deposited a check for $4,300 on 10/26/22 at a ********** branch. ********** claimed on 10/27/22 that ********** had put a hold on our payment. ********** then insisted a 2nd payment be made to a different bank, 1st ************ also in the amount of $4,300, but promised to repay the first $4,300. In good faith, we completed a wire transfer on the same day of his request for this duplicative payment of $4,300, because he claimed he needed funds to pay employees and would refund the first payment of $4,300 in full. We gave proof to ********** of the duplicative payment from our bank records and demanded a refund of $4,300. Approximately 60 text messages and 30 e-mails and have been sent from our office requesting contact for resolution. No calls have been returned. ********** promises to refund the duplicate payment of $4,300, so it is clear he knows he owes this refund. To date, no refund made.It is our belief that he took advantage of the apparent emergency tree situation and our good intentions to help pay his employees, to trick us into paying double the amount quoted in his written proposal. In reality he has exploited an elderly woman who lives on the property and stolen $4,300 from her. After 5 weeks, of multiple e-mails, texts and phone messages, we are poised to take all legal action necessary to recoup the damages done to our elderly client.Initial Complaint

Got a quote for tree removal and ***** grinding with topsoil and seed, they removed the tree but not the *****. Wanted all the money upfront as they said they need it to pay the ***** grinder. I called and met with this company on March 16th for a quote to cut down 5 trees. They came out, gave me a quote, and I put a $400 deposit down (receipt/email confirmation attached). They said they would cut my trees down in about 2 to 3 weeks. I heard nothing from them 3 weeks later, so I sent a text (their preferred means of communication). They said the would be out the following week, but never came or notified me once that week passed. I continually had to reach out when they didn't show up on the appointment dates, and they kept giving excuses. All my text communication is attached. Eventually, they just stopped responding all together and never gave my deposit back for services not rendered. I left a review on ******* and sent them an email.Business Response

Mid-June I paid $2,200 cash to have trees removed and stumps ground by H&K tree service. The trees were removed as contracted. I specifically asked if stumps had an additional cost and was told by the owner of the business stumps were included in the price. Tomorrow is August 1st and the stumps have not been ground. My home is in an HOA community. By the bylaws of the HOA the stumps must be ground. The HOA engaged with the vendor and was also unable to get a resolution. He lied to me and the HOA. There is a second homeowner in my community currently in the same situation with this business. H&K tree service needs to finish the job and provide a receipt.Initial Complaint

Hired H & K Tree Services to remove 4 large bushes and grind 6 stumps. Cut down the bushes quickly and then excuse after excuse to remove stumps. Paid cash - and ran without finishing the job. This has been an ongoing situation for over a month with now return calls or texts.
