I purchased a vehicle from Haggerty Ford in ************ on Saturday, January 14, 2023. In the dealer description of the vehicle, it was described in a couple of different sections as including running boards on the vehicle. I asked several times thru my salesman about the running boards, and Haggerty Ford Management continually advised they were not included, even after showing them that their own Dealer Notes of the vehicle said they were included. The last answer I got from Haggerty Ford was that a third-party was the one responsible for writing the included features of their vehicles for sale that are on their website, and that they had no control over it, and would not be including the running boards. At first I was not going to buy the truck from Haggerty Ford because of this issue, but it was a make/model that I was looking for and continued with the sale, choosing to address this issue after the purchase. I asked for no other accommodations regarding price, trade-in value, etc.... I just wanted the vehicle to come to me as described by the dealer on their website. The vehicle is slightly lifted/elevated, and as a 100% Disabled Veteran, the running boards that were described as coming on the vehicle would be very helpful in assisting me getting in/out of the vehicle.I have attached screenshots of the descriptions from the dealer website that describes the 5" rectangular running boards, and would like them placed.on the vehicle as per Haggerty Fords description.

AFTER CAREFUL CONSIDERATION I WOULD LIKE TO CLARIFY THE INFORMATION THAT WAS PRESENTED TO THE BBB.  *************** CAME TO THE DEALERSHIP ON WEDS THE 11TH.  HE EXPRESSED INTEREST IN THE RANGER HE DESCRIBED.  HE TEST DROVE THE VEHICLE AT THAT TIME AND HAD A DETAILED DISCUSSION WITH OUR 79 YR OLD SALESPERSON WHO HAS WORKED HERE FOR 30 PLUS YEARS.  ON FRIDAY THE 13TH HE NOTIFIED OUR SALES MANAGER HE WAS GOING TO PURCHASE THE VEHICLE AND HED BE FINANCING WITH USAA.  ON SATURDAY MORNING THE 14TH HE NOTIFIED US THAT OUR ADVERTISEMENT NOTED THAT RUNNING BOARDS WERE IN THE AD.  WE LOOKED AT THE AD AND AGREED THAT IT INCORRECTLY STATED THE VEHICLE HAD RUNNING BOARDS.  WE EXPLAINED THAT WE USE AN ADVERTISING **** KNOW AS A VIN EXPLODER.  THE **** ATTEMPTS TO ACCURATELY DESCRIBE THE ORIGINAL BUILD ON ANY OF OUR VEHICLES.  SINCE WE ACQUIRED THE **** WITHOUT RUNNING BOARDS AT AN AUCTION  WE PICTURED IT ONLINE IN ITS TRUE CONDITION.  WITHOUT BOARDS.  *************** DROVE IT WITHOUT BOARDS ON THE 11TH.  BOARDS WERE NOT DISCUSSED WITH US UNTIL SATURDAY MORNING.  WHEN ASKED ABOUT THE BOARDS WE EXPLAINED THAT IT DOESNT HAVE THEM NOR WOULD WE BE ADDING THE BOARDS.  WE APOLOGIZED.  HE KNEW THAT SINCE HE TOOK IT ON A TEST DRIVE.  AFTER WE TOLD HIM WE WOULD NOT BE ADDING THE RUNNING BOARDS HE TOLD US HE WAS GOING TO ************ TO PURCHASE A **** THEY HAD IN STOCK.  WE WERE DISSAPPOINTED BUT UNDERSTOOD HIS POSITION.  APPROXIMATELY 90 MINUTES LATER HE CALLED OUR SALESPERSON AND TOLD US HE WAS GOING TO COME BACK AND BUY OUR TRUCK.  WE WERE APPRECIATIVE OF THAT.  WHEN HE RETURNED TO EXECUTE THE TRANSACTION WITHOUT THE RUNNING BOARDS HE NEVER REQUESTED THE SALESPERSON INCLUDE THEM IN THE DEAL NOR DID HE ASK TO SPEAK TO A SALES MANAGER IN REGARDS TO THE BOARDS.  HENCE WE SOLD HIM THE VEHICLE AS IT PHYSICALLY WAS PRESENTED TO HIM THE FIRST DAY HE CAME TO LOOK AT IT.  UNDER EVERY VEHICLE PRESENTED ONLINE IS THE STANDARD DISCLAIMER ATTACHED BELOW.  WE HAD A CLEAR DISCUSSION WITH *************** BEFORE HE CAME BACK IN ON THE 14TH THAT WE WOULD NOT BE ADDING THE RUNNING BOARDS.  HE ELECTED TO PURCHASE THE RANGER AND ALL INFORMATION WAS FULLY DISCLOSED.

    Complaint: 18818753

I am rejecting this response because:

As the consumer, I did inquire about the running boards at the time I test drove the vehicle, then again when I noticed the dealers notes that advertised the vehicle as equipped with running boards, and afain on thebday I purchased the truck I advise *********** that I felt that the dealership owed me the running boards.

I had a great experience with the salesman, and whether I changed my mind on purchasing the vehicle really has no bearing on. The originalnpint, which is that Haggerty Ford advertised a vehicle for sale, described as being equipped with 5" rectangular running boards, and did not deliver the vehicle as advertised.

It is the responsibility of the dealership to ensure that descriptions of vehicles  and how they are equipped, are proofread for accuracy prior to being advertised to the public.  For these reasons, I feel that Haggerty Ford should accept responsibility for Their oversight,  rather than trying to blame a third party vendor or a consumer who is simply asking for the vehicle to be equipped as advertised.

    Sincerely,

    *******************

While it was conveyed to **************, very clearly, on several occasions prior to his purchase of the vehicle that the vehicle did not have the running boards, and it was a used vehicle being sold body condition "as is", he made the decision to purchase the vehicle. We believe that we acted in a professional and ethical manner. Also, ************** did fail to mention the upgrades that this particular vehicle had that were NOT mentioned in the listing, including a suspension lift kit & bed tonneau cover which we estimate added approximately a minimum of $2,500 to the vehicles original value. That being said, we believe that in the interest of customer satisfaction, we have a solution to this situation. We will provide ************** with a complete refund of all his money and the return of his trade in vehicle. We are requesting ************** to make immediate arrangements to return the vehicle to Haggerty Ford. Upon a successful inspection of our vehicle, Haggerty Ford will return all money as well as ****************** trade in vehicle to him.

I am rejecting this response because:

This is not an acceptable solution to the issue.  None of the other upgrades or accessories were mentioned because they were included on the vehicle as described.  Alrhough not in attached dealer notes, there was a spot that mentioned the lift and the bed cover.

The only acceptable outcome at this point for me, the customer, would be to put the running boards on as described. In the dealer notes/description.  I will not be returning the vehicle, and if we cant agree on the running boards, then I will just.choose to leave the action as open, and unresolved, but documented on behalf of the customer.

    Sincerely,
