Date: 2/2/24 Total Transaction Cost: $365.10 Paid for in a split payment between me and my dad; $75 from my dad and $291.10 from me. The mechanic agreed to replace my car's ignition switch for $95 and did so without issue. However, he also put a new battery into my car without my permission and without ever asking me. I was under the assumption that it did not need a new battery until after he informed me he put a new one in. When the car didn't work AFTER payment, I requested a refund for the battery I didn't consent to. He refused at first. My dad confronted him and then called the vendor that the mechanic bought the battery from as the mechanic claimed the vendor wouldn't take the battery back. The vendor confirmed that they WOULD take the battery back but only the mechanic can give the refund. The vendor contacted the mechanic to ask him to give me a refund but he was quoted as saying "It's not worth the headache". The mechanic then called me and, in a very angry tone, told me that he took the battery out of my car and put $140 cash under the floor mat of my car as an unofficial refund and told me to get my car off his property as soon as I could. I was going to sell the car to a junkyard after learning it still didn't work even with the new battery. I then used the car as a trade-in for a new car. I spoke to my bank and they said they couldn't dispute the charge. All I'm asking is for the remaining $131.10 that he charged me for the battery I never asked for. However, he won't do so and has been very hostile since the confrontation. I need this money to go to my new car since my old car needs too many repairs to keep running.
