I signed up with Charter Fitness subscribing to a membership in their **************, ******** location for one year. They insisted that I give them my checking account information telling me that my debit card was not enough and I had to provide my checking account information in order to get the membership. I reluctantly complied. After a few months, I transferred to their *******, ******** location in Cantaberry. After the year ended, the Markham location shut down and never opened back up. I didn't renew or return to the ************** location. After about two years, I discovered that Charter Fitness was taking monies out of my account for monthly membership fees and annual renewal fews that were hundreds of dollars over the time.. I went in to the ************** location and complained about the issue and tried to resolve the problem with the manager. I also wrote them a letter which I got no response or return calls. I did not take it to court because the legal fees were almost as much as the amount they had taken out of my account. I continued to plead with management at the ************** location but never received any recompense or any sort of resolve. For the two years that they were stealing funds from my account, they knew that I was not going in to the fitness center using their equipment. They never, via phone or *** mail, reached out to tell me or ask me why I wasn't using the membership--they did not care. Charter Fitness's intention is to get access to account information and take accts money even when the membership is not active. They told me that I didn't sign off on the membership ending the membership so they continued to take monies out of my checking account. This is fraudulent business activity and should be stopped immediately. I have read other reviews from former members saying they did them the same way -- I am in touch with others who are considering a *************** to stop this. I would accept $500 to resolve this issue.
