The building we lived in was owned by a private couple, which we entered into a lease agreement with. Afterwards we were on a month to month lease and after about 3 years of this.. Young America entered the picture. Before this happened, anything I needed fixed was a phone call away. Afterwards I could not get in touch with anyone for anything... We ended up letting the property owner know in writing we were going to be moving with 3 months notice! This company has tried everything they can think of to try to charge us exorbitant fees for not giving notice or leaving the keys somewhere. My gf even made the YA guy aware vocally alongside the owner that we were moving when she reinforced the point in person on a state inspection. The reason that YA even took interest is because they couldn't get in touch with us to sign our new lease agreement with vastly raised rent prices!! Please, if you can avoid using YA, do it! Unbelievable!Review from Jack O

This company is the WORST rental leaser for myself, current, and past residents. They will enter your personal space whether you are sleeping, showering, or worse in order to milk as much money as they can from college students. They REFUSE to attend to living standards and even structural problems until renters force them to address it or when its too late. This company is heartless. They only care about profit for themselves and nothing about the renters making their pockets deeper.Review from Erika V

I would give them a zero if I could. My apartment had 3 seperate sump pump issues. All of which supposedly were resolved. And then proceeded to flood twice! I was told to talk to Jeff about the damages to my property (electric couch, Nintendo switch charger, my dresser, entertainment center, and some priceless items). Nothing was done about the damages, instead I was given fans to help clear out the water. Upon the second flood, as I was moving my things to prevent further damage, I found black mold. I was fed up and asked to get out of my lease. They "helped" me out by only charging me for two months of rent instead of the 3 they normally would to release me from my lease. And then gave me about half of my deposit back for damages that were already on the property when I first leased. Their excuse was they didn't know the condition of building when they bought it. So instead of offering solutions, they robbed me some more. I will never rent from YA again and have learned a life lesson.Review from Meghan E

I have had many problems with Young America lately. There was signs of trouble from the start of my lease when I moved into my apartment and their was dead flies everywhere. On top of that the apartment was not cleaned at all and they had stated that all apartments are cleaned before you move in. There were also broken appliances in the apartment. I reached out to them about the state the apartment was in when I moved in and how displease I was they never reached out or responded back. The majority of problems started when I started to get roaches inside my apartment. I had called them and made a report about the bugs and wanted them to be exterminated. They responded with they have a person come once a month to spray bugs and there was nothing more that they could do. My roommate and I were told "the spray is not meant to keep them out but meant to kill them once they are already in". After that we were then being charged for utilities that were not ours. Only once we went to them and complained that we had stopped received utility reports but were still being charged did they show us the reports. We were told our utility usage was included in our rent but we still were getting charged extra. On top of all of this a month after we had moved out we got charged for utilities again. We complied and paid assuming this was for the month of May. However, now almost three months after we have moved out I received a threatening email from them about more charges. When I tried to call about the charges I was sent to voicemail even though I called during their business hours. I have since sent emails with no response or automated responses coming back. I have since moved to a different company to rent from for my last semester and wish that I would have listened to all the warnings I got about young america in the first place. If zero stars was an option thats what I would give them because in my opinion they don't even deserve one star.Review from Mary Ellen P

My daughter moved into an apartment last minute after being accepted to grad school. The other three that lived there demolished the place. They had lived there for several years. My daughter just slept there and her room had no damage. The others vacated a week early leaving a mess. We tried to clean the best we could but now my daughter is being charged for the damages. In other words I am paying for the filth and destruction that was done to apartment . She recently received a threatening emaill from Danielle ***. I am the tenants mother and paying the bills! I do not appreciate her threat and would like to speak with a responsible adult at young America ! Her tone and response is not professional!Review from Christina O.

Unfortunately my review is not a good one. I am having issues with neighbors that live in the unit above me. I have tried so hard to get help from the building manager and the director of residential housing. Nothing has been done about the harassment I have endured from these tenants for the past year. I have had my mail stolen and the shed to my unit has been broken into. I have been woken up and kept up in the middle of the night by them stomping on the floor and they go to their car and turn on their headlights and just keeping them on in my windows. I have sent video and picture proof of these things to the building manager with no success of relief. They said they " will talk to them." They said " I will look into it."They have done so much to make my life miserable in the one place I should have peace. The harassment has gotten worse as time goes on. My family came to visit and were subjected to said neighbors cursing and threatening me. I don't feel Young America Realty are concerned with the safety of tenants of their properties. I am a single black woman that needs help and I cant' seem to get it. B******** apartments is the property I am referring to.
