I'm placing this complaint because I found it very frustrating that because I live in incorporated Mokena, Homewood Disposal charges me double for the same service that incorporated Mokena residents pay thru the Village with the excuse that the village has a contract. If I were in a far rural area, I could understand that they charge me more (double), but when I live feet away from another house that is incorporated, in the main road they need to go by, is outrageous. My garbage can is place on the curb about 13 feet away from my neighbor's can. I asked to remove the recycling service so I can save some money, they told me they can take the recycling can from me, but the charge will be same, because they recycling service is free; how on earth are they doing that service for free when is a different truck that collects the recycling waste. I have looked for another company, but I cannot find any other one and that is why they take advantage. It is no fair that because they are the only company that services my house, I'm forced to pay whatever they want to charge me. It is no ethical.Business Response

Please accept this response concerning the pricing for the solid waste collections provided to your residence located in unincorporated ******, *********
As you know, the homeowners located within the town limits of ****** currently have more favorable pricing due to an agreement with the Village to haul the entire Village. We understand that your particular address may be close to the homes that are part of the contract but we must stick to the boundaries of the town limits for routing and pricing purposes. In addition, residents within the Village limits are billed by the Village, while those outside the limits are billed individually - which has it's own challenges.
Homeowners outside the Village have the option to select any waste collection vendor they choose to service their home. However, we at Homewood Disposal value you as a loyal customer and hope to continue serving you. I am rejecting this response because:Their response is not different than what I already heard. Does not explain why I have to pay more for the exact same service.
Homewood Disposal is very well aware that there are no other companies to service my house. I have already contacted three companies. Furthermore, I have asked to remove the recycling service and fee, they are happy to remove the container but not the fee by claiming the service is fee, is not free, but is convenient for them to say is free and keep collecting money from me instead of lowering my bill.
The fact that they have an agreement with the village is not a valid reason because the village does not pay any portion of the bill on behalf of the people, the village only do a breakdown per household and bills accordingly.
If Homewood Disposal has the good will of giving a better price to the village due to the number of houses they served, they should show the same good will and give the same price to the houses that are in the same route, it cost them no more to provide the exact same service.
I had already call them to try to lower my bill, to no avail.

I filed a I called Homewood Disposal Company to inquire about trash pickup. **** the Dispatcher answered. I asked if there would be trash pickup in ******* today. He responded, "It's your holiday today, isn't it?" I asked him repeat that and he said it again. I said it is Juneteenth today. He said, "then there is trash pickup today". I asked him what did he have to ask if it was my holiday for? I told him that it was a yes or no question and that he didn't have to responded with "It's your holiday". He then proceeded to get louder in his response, and I told him to have a nice day and disconnected the call. I believe that his response was racially motivated. I would like for this to be investigated because this is the person that we have to call in if there is a complaint with our service. To know that my complaint may not be handled properly because of my ethnicity is disturbing to me. I would like for the new owner of this company to investigate this employee's behavior and remove him these having interactions with customers because it is clear that he has racial bias.Business Response

Thank you for getting in touch with us. We are taking this matter very seriously and have spoken with our team member about it. This appears to be an unfortunate misunderstanding of the questions asked and the language used during the conversation. Upon review of the matter, we note that there was no interruption in the services provided and garbage was picked up on June 19 at the Lynwood address provided by the customer.

Thank you for your response, *****, however as the Education Coordinator of Homewood Disposal Service, **** it would have been comforting to hear that since your company takes matter very seriously that you would have responded that you would use this complaint as a education opportunity to educate your employees on racial tolerance and sensitive.
As a senior citizen who have witnessed many racially insensitive moments, it was very alarming to be a victim of this myself. Your employee is not telling you the truth about his insensitive remarks. My question was simple. I asked if trash would be pick up that day in ******** I am very clear about what he said to me during the conversation, andit was also very clear that he understood me because of the way and manner in which he answered the question.
You wrote that, This appears to be an unfortunate misunderstanding of the questions asked and the language used during the conversation. We both spoke English so there was no confusion about the language used during the conversation. And no, my service was not affected on June 19th, but my opinion of Homewood Disposal was affected.
You also wrote, Thank you again for bringing this to our attention so we could investigate further. It is my understanding that you have reviewed this and maybe your next step for the future should just be an educational one for your companys employees.

Homewood Disposal missed a pickup of residential garbage. My Garage was out at 4am and was not collected. I have overflowing garbage all Holiday weeked. After complaining to company, I was threatened witha $25 charge to pick up the garbage they missed. Terrible, rude customer service.Business Response

Our operations team has confirmed that the garbage was missed on this particular day. We did send a driver back to collect the garbage but it was no longer at the curb. After the holiday weekend we were able to go back and collect the garbage from ***************** Our operations supervisor did reach out to **************** and provided his direct phone number so if there were ever another issue he could contact the supervisor directly. At this time, we also gave **************** a credit for the missed pickup. Our supervisor checked back in the following week to make sure everything was okay. We have not since heard from **************** regarding any problems.Customer Answer
