    I recently ended my service with TDS, which I had for internet and cable tv because the monthly charges went up to ****** a month. I had my internet with them for 5 years and cable tv for 3 years and I never paid my bill late. I shopped around for better offers but contacted TDS first to see if there was any incentive to keep me as a valued customer. I would do that every year and generally they offered me a $30.00 discount, but this time even with the discount I was not able to afford it. My husband and I are both in our late 60s and live on social security and that would be a struggle for us to pay. While I was searching for a new provider, I contacted customer service on several occasions and asked about when my statement cycle ended and was told that it ended on the 6th of the month and then my next question was will I only be charged for the days I use their services before asking them to close my account. I was told on numerous occasions that I would only be billed for only the days I use it. I only used the service from March 7th till March 15th and when I received my final bill it was for the whole month. Upon calling it was explained that it is a subscription based service and whether or not I use their service for 1 day or more, I would still have to pay the full monthly rate. I am not an idiot and I have common sense enough to know that if they told me that in the first place when I asked on more than one occasion, I would of finished the month out with TDS before having my new provider install their equipment. I expect that when Im speaking to someone from customer service that I am speaking to a knowledgeable person that wouldnt give me misinformation, especially when I asked that same question on multiple calls to them. All the supervisor named ****** could say was that he was sorry that I was misinformed and that there was nothing he could do. I feel it is robbery to charge for services not rendered and something needs to change.
