In October of 2023, my son was admitted to ******************. His health insurance began the process of paying out claims to multiple providers. In November, I provided these insurance cards to ************************ but I continued to receive bills. SO I began trying to figure it out and I learned this: R1 RCM is MESSY and their process is stupid.I cannot stress enough the frustrating mess that the process is to deal with Ascension Medical Group's chosen billing company R1 RCM. Here's how it worked: I called the Ascension phone number, and one of the options was "To update your insurance information...." I selected that one. I was instructed to email a copy of the insurance card, which I did. In January. I received an email that I needed to send the information to another email. No worries, I get it - one's a facility, one's a medical group. So I did.Fast forward to March, and another email from R1 RCM with what I can only describe as the most confounding "checklist" - formatted so poorly that I couldn't figure out what they wanted because of the formatting. I sent as much info as I could figure out they wanted. Then came April and the same thing - another poorly formatted checklist, but I could sort of glean that they needed dates of service. So I provided those. Then came today. I received ANOTHER checklist saying I needed more info. Never any human contact ; this ill-constructed checklist is all I got. And what it said today: "BAD DEBT."It took me over an hour to find a phone number and actually SPEAK with a HUMAN who pulled it back from collections. R1 RCM - you're about the worst company I have ever dealt with. Let me put this out there - I am an educated person with good communications skills, and this was my experience. How's it working out for people with less skills? My guess is they're sent to collections because of this terrible process, and saddled with subsequent medical debt. Shame on R1 RCM and the providers that use them. SHAME.

This company is doing ************************* billing now. And it is astonishingly unprofessional. I have called and spoken to four different representatives over the course of a month. The first one told me she was just part of an answering service but would have someone call back. The call back number they left the next day only went to a voicemail. Three others have asked me to email in the same document over and over, stating they never received it. The last call I made sounded like they were having a party in the background with people yelling and laughing. I am again told to wait 7-10 business days after this last round of emailing but I don't have high hopes for any response.

I stupidly overpaid them on a doctors **** and it took them close to a year to refund $2400.00 Yes Twenty Four Hundred dollars. I had to jump through hoops to provide them proof that my insurance company paid the bill and they were paid by me and by Anthem (twice). R1 RCM is an offshore billing company for Vituity. Both entities do not hold themselves to a professional standard and make promises they just cannot keep. Then, when they are caught in a vicious circle of deceit, they come clean as "an offshore" company with no power to escalate resolution on your behalf. After 9 months of madness with the concentric circles of Vituity/R1 RCM billing, I had to hire a lawyer who navigated to Vituity's President and General Counsel and then and only then was I able to reach a promise of resolution and a check in hand. This story is likely one of many stories people have in working with these two VILE organisations.

I was let go a week before Christmas 2022 and was told R1 RCM was "parting ways with me". The team I was on (under Ascension in *********) went through a transition to a new EMR. During the transition and after, R1 offered incentives for overtime. This included working through lunches to receive a $20 Amazon credit or free lunch, and every 2 hours working overtime you would receive $20 amazon credit. I told my supervisor I was saving up my remaining Amazon credit ($180.00) for Christmas. We emailed links for any item we wanted to use towards our Amazon Credits. Before my supervisor left for vacation, I emailed all the links to items I wanted ordered to use towards Christmas presents. My supervisor responded saying she would not honor my Amazon credit. R1 took away our assigned breaks starting from when the transition began (October 2022-December 2022). I replied to my Supervisor **** letting her know I needed to step away from my computer for a few moments like she stated we could in our meeting since they took away all assigned breaks. **** left for her vacation and the following week another Supervisor worked in her position. I emailed that supervisor ******* asking for an update on my orders. She replied adding other supervisors to the email stating they would not honor the credits (and added my recruiter and another Supervisor *** to the emails). I called my recruiter asking for help what I should do since I worked through multiple lunches and worked overtime. My recruiter said she was unaware of any Amazon Credit incentives and had a meeting with R1 later that day. My recruiter called me back on December 16th end of the work day to let me know because of the Amazon Credits and absents (I was previously sick, had COVID, and my Dad was in the hospital for his heart previously way before this began and R1 was aware). I worked a lot of overtime to help the company through the transition and deserve the incentives they offered me. I was beyond broken hearted.
