After reporting a charge for a procedure not discussed with the provider, U of Chicago Medicine removed the charge, and posted a final balance due. I paid the final balance due of $149.40. Then a few days after I paid my "final" balance in full, they announced they decided to reverse their decision to remove the charge and another new balance appeared. To date and after two requests no lab levels have ever been posted to my patient medical chart. I recall verbally declining the additional testing procedure discussed with the physician's assistant during the office visit but was charged anyway. I believe this is medically unethical behavior. A week after the office visit, I had to message the medical center and ask for the lab levels and results. Again, no lab levels were posted for the scheduled appointment procedure OR the unauthorized procedure - only a simple message from the physician's assistant stating that I tested negative. It didn't occur to me that I needed to check the BBB for UChicago Medicine-a medical institution that has maintained a presence in Chicago for decades. The * rated is too good for the University of Chicago Medicine. I believe an F rating is a far more appropriate rating.Initial Complaint

I submitted a written request for the medical records for my deceased husband on 12-11-24 and again 1-.6-25 and I called the medical records department and spoke to a person who identified herself as "******* on 2-4-25, someone allegedly named *** on 2-13-25. a Briitney on 3-6-25, but still no medical records. I spoke again to a person who identified themself as *** who alleedly transtered me to the supervisor " Ms. ******** I left a message, twice , but no medical records. I called again on 4-8-25 and spoke to a per named ******* who stated that the records would be sent to me, but as of todays date 04-28-25 no records have been received. I am the surviving spouse of ******* A. *******, I sumitted a copy of the marriage and death certificate, but still no medical records. On Sunday Jan 19th my brother ******* ***** was admitted to the ** at the University of Chicago due to suffering a mental breakdown. My sister ***** ***** filled out the necessary paperwork to include both our of contact information so we could be informed before my brother was transferred to the VA hospital as we requested for further psychiatric treatment. On Monday Jan 20th my brother was transferred without our knowledge. I called the University of Chicago on Tuesday Jan 21st since I still had not been contacted. I was informed he had been discharged and no one over the phone could tell if he had been transferred to the VA hospital or if he was just sent home from the hospital. My brother has no coat, gloves. ID, money, glasses, or cellphone on his person. I was panicked and had to immediately step away from work to try to figure out what happened to my brother as it isnseverely cold and he needs treatment for his mental state. I went back to the ** and the gentleman at the front desk told me to check at the Inpatient center to see if he was admitted. I walked there and was told my brother had been discharged but that young lady could not see in the system if he had been transferred. I went back to the ** to try to press for more information and I called the police as it seemed I was just getting the run around. Finally ****** in the ** who was intaking patients looked in the system and told me my brother had been transferred to the VA. However there was no record on file of my sister's or my contact information. It appears the document my sister filled out on Sunday vanished. The stress of not knowing where my brother was even for this short while today was excruciating. I want to know why the document containing our contact information was not properly entered into the system so an adequate trail could be maintained on my brother who is currently in no mental state to fend for himself.Initial Complaint

My brother passed away on 8 18 2024 at U of C. I have called several times for a couple of questions. I have been transferred on the phone many times from the expiration desk, Patient Experience and medical records. NO ONE CALLS BACK!!!!! I find this very upsetting and unacceptable! I am my brother's adminstrator. I did have his body picked up by a funeral director. My name for info is on his death certificate. i AM WONDERING WHY I AM NOT RECEIVING A CALL BACK. Good morning Its very unethical how the hospitals of today don't care, or display any Professionalism or customer service. I recently had some concerns about my financial assistance that University of Chicago had approved for me for financial service, all the way until 5/28/2024 of next year. When I notice a bill was still not paid on my ***** membership site. I called and spoke to a Financial representative by the name of *****, upon speaking to her she was experiencing some technical difficulties with her computer and then started to crunch and munch in my ear to the point. I stated "Could you please stop chewing food in my ear that's totally unprofessional." She didn't apologize or acknowledge what I stated. Then I responded saying So you are not going to acknowledge what I just said, She replied I heard what you said what do you want me to do and then the call was released. I call back to and requested to speak to a manager and was switched to the questionnaire portion of the call. I have never been mistreated or experience this type of disrespect or lack of Professionalism!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Initial Complaint

I visited Uchicago Medicine on 2023/2/6, and payed the fee using HSA account through Instamed. However, with the proof of payment from InstaMed, Uchicago Medicine insisted that they didn't receive the payment and asked me to pay again to them directly. My brother is a patient in the emergency room to get to the emergency department you call operator and then they transfer you to the emergency room operator, the emergency room operator answer the phone with an attitude like I was calling her house, after I called 5 times the emergency operator started hanging up on me, so I used another phone the and emergency operator answered the call but everytime they transfer you to a nurse they dont answer. The second time I called I got through to thru to nurse who left me on hold and never came back. I understand that nurses and the staff are very busy but they should never be too busy to talk to a patients family member. The University of Chicago, suppose represent the best quality of care and understanding but what about worrying family members just trying to get an update. The actual emergency room operator and nurses know better, because they would not like it if someone did that to them and their family its a shame how they behavior is displayed over the phone I wonder how are they treating the patients in the hospital, with attitude of impatience and stink attitudes . Once my brother is discharged we will no longer be affiliated with any parts of the University of Chicago medical hospital or clinic we will be transferring our services somewhere else. I schedule an annual check with this facility in Oct 2022. An annual check usually is covered by my insurance. And the medical office did confirm that with me before my visit. During my visit. ******** ask me if I have any health concerns, I told him pretty normal and that we run several standard tests. However, I received a medical bill of over $1000 after I got back home about a week later. I spend numerous time trying to figure out what part went wrong. The billing department told me the medical office didn't use the code for the annual check-up for my medical bill. They claim that I went there for chest pain which is not true. And I have never been contacted again by the medical office after my sole visit nor did I receive any follow-up phone call or an explanation of the test result. I made many phone calls to try to solve this billing issue, but the person in charge ( *************************************) seems not interested in responding to me after I made phone calls/ left a VM.
