I had my explorer worked on at the Sam Leman service department about 4 weeks ago for a rattle that after a week they stated was caused by fasteners for the underbody panel. When I got my explorer back I noticed that it felt like a tire was out of balance immediately. As I drove the car the problem got a lot worse. After driving 80 miles I noticed that there were lug nuts missing from the back left wheel and 2 out of 5 wheel studs were broken. The other 3 lug nuts were about ready to come off. I was able to tighten the lug nuts and drove straight to the dealership.
The car has been at the dealership for 3 weeks with no end in sight as they have told me that they cannot get parts. Today I offered to trade my car in to end this nightmare. I asked the salesman what program they use to determine the trade in value and was told NADA. After I was offered $7k less than the trade in value on NADA I was told that they use a variety of programs. The salesman wasn't able to explain any further how they came up with the trade in value.
I explained that I was only trading in the car to end the problem that the service department had caused and I was told that they couldn't give me anymore for my vehicle. The salesman agreed with the options, mileage, and condition of the vehicle which is used to determine the trade in value.
A sales manager called after I talked with the salesperson. The sales manager stated that they do not use NADA but figure out a market value for each vehicle. The sales manager would not give me the market value for their vehicle or elaborate on the value of my car.
I am driving a loaner vehicle from the dealership, but I would like my car to get fixed and returned to me. Overall the problem with my car was caused by poor workmanship by the dealership and they are trying to make money off the problem.
