I tried to rent from these guys in ******************************* *********, *****. I am a person of color who was moving from ****** for work at **********************. Throughout their application process, they asked me for my credit history (which was great) and renting history which had no complaints ever. They sent me an email saying that Unfortunately we are not able to approve it with a regular security deposit. We are, however, able to extend an offer to reevaluate your application with either a qualified cosigner or a double security deposit. I was unsure why this was happening because at that time I lived in a more expensive town paying much more in rent and doing so pretty comfortably. I decided to rent from someone else because this request made me deeply uncomfortable even though I couldve afforded a double deposit or asked a friend to co-sign for me. They have very discriminatory practices and asked me for a double security deposit or a co-signer because I am an international person. I am disappointed and unsure why after receiving my entire renters history, credit history and proof of income, I was denied a full approval for renting a house that was well within my income. At the time I was earning lesser than what my income wouldve been in ***** and paid more rent in *********, ******. Additionally, it was unclear how somehow paying additional security deposit solved anything problem except demonstrate their bigotry. They need to be reminded about the Fair Housing Act that protects renters from such practices, as it was discriminatory considering the xenophobic experiences of international people trying to find housing in the town of *********. Thankfully I was able to find a different place to rent but what a horrible experience to begin with when trying to live in a new place. They are bigoted and horrible. I would give these bigoted crooks a ******* rating if I could, Ive never had such an unpleasant experience trying to rent.

All applicants are evaluated objectively using a scoring rubric, in accordance with Federal Fair Housing Laws.We require rental applications from all adults who desire to occupy one of our properties and are transparent with the application requirements. As part of the application process, we verify income and check credit, criminal background, and rental history. All applicants are screened using the same criteria.Upon review of our files, we discovered that contact information for your past landlords was not initially provided when you applied. We only received additional rental references after we sent an email about the application status. Our office made several attempts to contact these references but had not heard back from them and therefore did not have that rental history to enter in the scoring rubric. There was also a limited credit history at that time. Based on the data we had, the application was approved conditionally with a qualified cosigner or higher deposit amount. This is a common practice in property management to provide options for people whose applications may not be approved outright. We are always willing to update an application score if additional information is received, but by the time this happened, you had chosen to go a different direction. We wish you had reached out to us with your concerns at the time you applied, instead of waiting six years to post here. We are greatly concerned by the slanderous allegations of discrimination. Our decisions are NEVER made on the basis of race, color, ethnicity, or international status. We are very strict in our adherence to the anti-discrimination ordinance of the ***************** and Federal Fair Housing Laws. We are saddened to learn you perceived some form of bigotry and assure you that was not the case. If we can ever help you in the future, please let us know. We would appreciate the opportunity to be of assistance.
