We hired a contractor, ************************ of Elevation Construction LLC out of ********** *****, to demo our roof and front porch and install a new metal roof and front porch. Original contract signed on 30 May 2023 with a completion date of 1 August. Contractor stated that if he could start soon he may finish by 1 July. $17,000 dollars was paid up front for material and as a good faith initial deposit. The contractor showed up on 3 August 2023, and over the following 9 days, removed the existing metal on the roof, demolished the front porch, removed the broken columns, raised the front porch overhang back into position (2022 2023 snow season broke the columns and caused the overhang to sag down a few inches) and installed temporary supports to hold the overhang up, in place.I had discussed a foil insulation sheet under the metal at the start of the contract, and the contractor recommended a type that had foil on the sheeting. Later, the contractor told us that type of foil barrier wasnt applicable for our climate. I asked the contractor if he could insulate the attic with typical fiberglass insulation. He said that would require a change order and would have to be paid up front. We complied, and at his request, paid him and additional $23,020.20 on 7 August. Contractor returned at my request in late August, to patch a few holes in the then exposed shake roof, as the roof, without the metal, leaked when it rained.On 30 October 2023, after not showing up to work, we told him we had reached our limit, we had to get the roof and porch ready for Winter, and he was to invoice us for the demo he started, to include equipment rental, labor hours and materials on site and refund us the balance. He not only did not invoice us, or return any money, but he often ignores our text messages. Texting is the only way to reach him as his voice mailbox is full and he doesnt answer his phone. Email has worked in the past but hes slow to respond.
