On June 27, 2024, I paid Aamco at **************************************** a total of $1110.40 for a transmission remove and replace with a rebuilt transmission that I provided. When they replaced it, they removed the manual transmission from the clutch bellhousing and allowed the clutch fork to move out of place and apparently didn't bother to check it and make sure it was in the correct position before installing the new transmission. This is a standard automotive procedure. As a consequence, here I am a couple of months later and discovered my clutch pedal malfunctioning. Spongy one moment, hard the next, and sometimes wouldn't even release the clutch at all. As it turns out, the clutch fork had shifted position badly enough to lose it's retaining cap of which a replacement simply CAN NOT be ordered in the very literal sense because GM doesn't offer that part anymore (part#***-3620, clutch pivot retainer clip) This was on my 1973 GMC Truck with a GM NV4500 transmission. Now that the retainer has completly come off, the vehicle does still drive and function, but it isn't CORRECT. The only way to replace this retainer correctly would be a complete removal of the transmission, if one can even be found. There's no way to get the clutch fork in correct location without a complete removal. ***** did say he would have them look at it, but beyond that, I have no guarantees that I wouldn't be asked to pay them even more money to release the vehicle to me after it's been repaired, so I'm simply electing not to take my vehicle back to the shop. It's only been 2 months. If they didn't do it right the first time on soemthing this simple, what guarantee do I have they will do it right the SECOND time? Since a transmission Remove&Replace is required to fix this, I think getting back what I paid Aamco for an Remove&Replace is fair. $1,110.40.

On 4/24/23 AAMCO misdiagnosed my 17 year old daughters ******* and told her she needed a new sensor in her transmission which they charged her over $700 to replace. When she presented to Fairview location and in good faith paid for what she had been led to believe was a repaired vehicle she only made it 2 or 3 miles down the street before the car wouldnt go into drive again (just like before). Vehicle was towed back to AAMCO ASAP. A few days later, ***** (one of the self proclaimed owners) informs us that it turns out she needs her entire ****** rebuilt instead (OOPS) which costs more than the vehicle is worth. When asked to kindly return my daughters hard earned money that she earned from her job at the daycare and had to clean out her savings account to produce, ***** said thats not how it works. As a result, my daughter has been crying for days because not only does she still owe $13,000 on the defective vehicle MASS MOTORS sold her but now she has been cleaned out by AAMCO unjustly. What has our society come to where dishonest business practices such as these have become acceptable? I was a mechanic for years when I was younger at which time the AAMCO brand was synonymous with high quality customer service and repair. Unfortunately, that level of integrity is non existent at this location. Please help ** get a much deserved refund, get the word out, and penalize this conscienceless establishment for its dishonest business practices. Thank you!Service: Transmission

    Business Response

    Date: 05/16/2023

First, this vehicle drove in, drove while we inspected it, and drove away.  The vehicle had a P0722 code in it which represents no signal from output speed sensor.  *********** TSB 20-AT-**** the recommended repair is to replaced the output speed sensor and retest.  When we completed the repair the speed sensor was functioning and the vehicle drove.  The customer picked up vehicle and it drove away.  Called the next day says it still had a problem.  I paid for a tow to get it back here.  We drove it and worked fine.  So I sent my tech out on a longer drive and after 45 mins of driving the vehicle, it finally started to act out.  After further testing the information showed speed sensor still working but transmission is loosing internal pressure and indicates it will need to be rebuilt to fix issue.  We did the same repair that ******* would have done with the same information.  We cannot predict everything wrong with a vehicle if the vehicle doesnt give us all the information all the time.  We have done the speed sensor many times in the past and it has fixed the issue but it doesn't always work.  I explained to the customer that there is no guarantee that the sensor would fix it completely but that it was the most likely cause of issue per ******* TSB.  I explained to the customer it is like going to the doctor and only showing a few symptoms and doctor gives you meds that don't seem to work and you go back later with worse symptoms.  You can't ask the doctor to give you your money back on the first doctors appointment and on the meds because the symptoms got worse and showed a new issue.  We did the repair that any other place would have done first with the information given at that time.

I am rejecting this response because:

the vehicle in question was returned to my 17 year old daughter in exactly the same condition it was originally taken to AAMCO in. AAMCO misdiagnosed the problem and charged a 17 year old girl over $700 to replace a sensor in the transmission that didnt need replacing in the first place. Then instead of admitting they made a mistake and giving her money back they took the money and ran like the bunch of no account scoundrels they are and left a 17 year old girl balling with no car and no money in her bank account. *********************** final diagnosis of the vehicle was it needed a ****** rebuild per ***** one of the self proclaimed owners which they know as well as I do is exactly what the vehicle needed in the first place, but instead of admitting they made a mistake and making things right they chose to go this route. These guys should be put out of business for their predatory tactics and unethical business practices!!!

    Sincerely,
