I have attached details and my attempt to resolve the bill, but I had gotten an estimate at the start of the work, and by the time I got the bill it was 3 times the cost of the original "estimate" without any notice of the total cost. I would have gone with another company that showed up on time and did not drag out the work over a month and a half.

I am getting contacted by High Ground threatening legal action.  I have told them I am waiting for them to respond to the complaint.  They sporadically worked over 1 1/2 months, and they expected me to understand that the work was going to total 3 times their verbal estimate with no check-in with a updated or in progress pricing.  They want me to sign a payment agreement, because I think they know that they do not have a legal standing to hold me accountable for limitless bill total.  They said they haven't received the complaint and I do not want to make another payment until there is some mediation.

We were contacted by ************** May 2, 2023, about doing work on the property for a day care as per requested. **** (owner of HGE) told ***** over text that he "guessed" pricing would be $1500.00 to $2500.00 all billing shall be based on a time and material basis. HGE stated over a phone call that anything outside of the scope of work discussed would be $145.00 for the first hour and $110.00 every hour following and additional $55.00 for any other tech.

Scope of work was based electrical of Bent Nail home inspection requested by ***** Day.

*4 GFCI outlets *Install 2 GFCI outlets on existing kitchen circuits* Remove exposed wiring. *With the rewire of 10 can lights from 2 exiting lights.

Preceding forward with the project (okayed by *****) we sent technicians to do the amount of work as per requested. Over the month and half ***** kept adding more work to the list of things she wanted done outside of the scope of work she originally requested getting a price on. On many occasions we had to reschedule due to either ***** having other workers there for plumbing, painting, etc. or more additions to the original plan and took longer than expected to get all the work completed. The quotes ***** has uploaded is from Sublime electric, not High Ground Electric.

      Additional Work:

*New Duplex Tamper Resistant Outlets. * New switches. *All new cover plates. *New range circuit.  *Repair and install exterior lights. * Removed and rewire sign circuit. *Route new fire alarm circuit.

I am rejecting this response because:

I will be getting more information next week, but I have questions as to the $997.06 that was charged in materials.  I supplied all of the lights, except for the 3 "bug" eyes in the bathroom.  I supplied switches and light plates, as well.

The work on 7/28 was to repair a short that should have been a part of their work warranty.

I will have more receipts and an estimate that compares apples to apples with the work that they did.

In addition, the work was completed over the course of 6/22/2023 to 7/28/2023.  In that time, other contractors started because the job should have been completed earlier.  They would have put me behind on my schedule and delayed the opening of the business, if I had waited for them to complete the new lights and plugs. The painters had to remove lights that were in the way and charged me for that work.

      Sincerely,

      ***** Day

I am rejecting this response because:

As I have stated many times, I would not have choose to go with this company if they had been more transparent with their pricing.  I attached the inspection that they did create their bid off of, and the same information I gave to Sublime Electric and they gave a very detailed bid.  The text message shows pricing that I was presented by High Ground Electric.  I was not able to make an informed decision due to their unprofessional business practices.

Here are the attachements that I tried to provide with my 2/12 response.

      Customer Answer

I had asked another electric company to come and survey the work that High Ground Electric and ask them to give me their price for the job.  Their total for the job was $4863.  That is a difference of $4521.56.  I am guessing it would have been done in a week vs. a month an a half with another company.  During the time that that High Ground Electric worked on the project, I had to go open the business for them, and many times they did not show up and I had to call the office to find out where their workers were.  They said they were on their way and half the time they would show up, but usually late or not at all.  The majority of the time only one person worked on the project that could have been done faster with two, especially for wiring new lights. I would not have put up with this behavior if I had known their final bill for the project.  In addition, I had such a hard time getting them out to do the project, I did call out another electric company.  The final electrical inspections was scheduled and their wiring of the exit sign was not done correctly.  In order to get it fixed expeditiously, I called out Same Day Electric.  They were also the ones that recommend I contact High Ground for the popped outlet, as they should have guaranteed their work.  So, aside from work done by the painter to remove lights in their way, I also had another electrical company work to fix their work.  I had a differnt electritian for the ***** as well, that was contracted through **********************.  As a consumer and a customer, I should not have had to work so hard to get an actual estimate out of High Ground Electric.

I will be going with a company like Sublime electric that has more transparent pricing in their bids and more professional.  High Ground Electric seems to be very disorganized and guessing at pricing.  I have requested a copy of my call records to give a further picture of just how many times I had to contact them to finish the job or get some sort of communication as to when one of their electritians would show up.

At this point, I am willing to offer High Ground Electric a settlement of $5000.  I have paid $3500 total and will pay the remaining $1500 upon the agreement of this settlement offer.  I am not going to be signing to payment plan, so no further payments will be made without consulting counsel, if the settlement isn't accepted.

HGE has made a reasonable payment plan with ***** day. HGE is still in agreement for this payment plan with ***********  However, we will not agree to the terms ***** has presented. HGE is asking for the total of the invoice (Labor and materials) for the total amount of $9,384.56 minus a payment made of $3,000.00 12/5/2023 and $500.00 1/29/2024. BALANCE: $5,884.56

I am rejecting this response because:

I made a resonable attempt to solve this through the BBB with a fair settlement offer, but now I will be consulting with my attorney.  I am sorry we couldn't conclude this here.
