1 starI went to this credit union solely based on looks, it has a green earthy natural look that I liked on the outside. The people on the inside are a different story. The tellers have always been decent. Except one, who hurt and offended me so bad the last time I went in. I made a formal complaint on the green state app. I had a call a few days later from the only woman that showed me sincere compassion. For my degrading and embarrassing personal situation that I openly shared with her. This male teller was ignorant with me when I told him I didn’t understand their app or how to use it, I kept hearing from everyone in the bank how easy it is. Not for me I am a burned out stressed out dumb female trying to divorce my predatory spouse. I had to tell him this out loud in front of a line of customers behind me, just to get him to treat me with respect. His response was, that’s life as he smiled at me with his disgusting rotten teeth. My heart sank, it killed me. I found out that he is a husband and father. I hope that isn’t his response when his innocent sweet child comes home saying they were bullied. a doctor wouldn’t dare use that response after telling their patient they have a deadly cancer, that will kill then sooner than later. Every human in this shitty world is struggling no matter how well they hide it. He needs to be reminded of this, by getting fired. That is not the ideal type of person to work with the public. What happened to good old fashioned kindness and compassion for your fellow human? This is the first of many more complaints from this bank, I regret going there, and now I am stuck til I move out of this horrible community.GreenState Credit Union

1 starI've been getting these fliers in the mail advertising this credit union's crazy high CD yields (currently 4.90% for a 14-month CD if you deposit at least $25,000).

3 starsTheir online account payment system doesn't offer anyway to make principal payment for our car loan. Sure, they had the lowest interest rate when I refinance my car loan with them, but with no options to make principal payment, you'll have to pay out the loan in it's full term. You can make a principal payment, if you call them after you make your extra payment, but WHY do I need to do this? This is such an easy feature to implement. If I had access to their code, I can hire a couple of developers from India to add this feature within a month. Just stay away from this Credit Union, unless you like to payout the full term of your loan, which makes no financial sense, or you like to wait on hold with a phone call to their call center. Get a loan from a company that offers principal payments, even if you are 1/2 point or more on the Interest rate.GreenState Credit Union

1 starMy experience is with the company in general! My account would not be overdrawn if GreenState didn't charge me $700+ in fees! I have my account set up with direct deposit for my paychecks every other Fri so funds are always being deposited. I would not knowingly let my account get so overdrawn, I don't know anyone who could afford to throw away that much money! This is not okay!
It's outrageous and unacceptable. I am a single mom on one income and because of this I have not been able to pay my Jan rent or buy groceries to feed my child. I have never experienced anything like this with any of my previous banks which tells me that your instituition is just out to steal as much money from your members as you can. Shame on you for treating members like this! I will be closing my account this afternoon!GreenState Credit Union

1 starI've never worked with a bank that makes this many mistakes. They have repeatedly messed up our loans, didn't set up our escrow, messed up the closing documents. One time, a man called me to threaten me that if I didn't make my mortgage payment I would be turned over to a collection agency - even when I told them I had made the payment (I've never missed a payment in my life). I had to go back through my cancelled checks to prove that I had made the payment and they called to acknowledge they had put it in the wrong account!! I have my insurance set up to notify them yearly that I have proof of insurance and regardless of my insurance company sending the documentation I receive a threatening letter stating that since I did not provide proof of insurance they would purchase some on my behalf. After checking with my insurance company - they had sent the documentation. This has happened multiple years in a row. I'm not sure how they are allowed to stay in business and if we could move our mortgage we would gladly do so but we have an amazing rate with them and rates have been steadily increasing. 1 starMy name is jesus I got a car loan with them back in 4/4/2022 long story short I bought insurance with this vehicle the same day I got it 2 months later they call me that they don’t see insurance on my loan so they told me to upload my insurance declaration to their third party who verifies insurance so I did to give them ..2-6 weeks later I called to confirm that they got my insurance they said yes ..and so I thought everything was good because I had this car on auto pay insurance verified etc .. came to find out 2 weeks ago that my loan balance went up because they bought a premium insurance which cost around 6,800 dollars and a 550 dollar increase monthly so they reported to my credit that I made late payments because I had it on auto pay for the original amount and not wasn’t receiving enough money for their premium… I spoke to someone which was very rude to me and claiming they’re third party verified my insurance on October 4 , 2022 and not April 4 , 2022 which is a lie because I already uploaded the insurance declaration and I spoke to my insurance manager and they said they never called them to verify my insurance even after I upload the my insurance declarations that date effective since 4-4-2022 with no loss of coverage since vehicle was purchase very very bad experience ..after couple hours with my insurance and one of their representatives they cleared said sorry because they screwed up but they effected my credit score tremendouslyGreenState Credit Union

1 starI visited the branch on SW 9th in Des Moines. I am not a member but was given a check from this Credit Union. I wanted to try this Credit Union to see if I open a business account . This is by far the worst experience. I first drove thru to cash the check, the employee advised me to come inside because they needed to see me physically walk in to cash the check. It didn’t make sense because I presented all the necessary IDs. Then when I did come into the lobby, the branch manager advised me to cash the check I would need to endorse the check and add my full social security on the back of the check. I was fine with endorsing the check and even providing a thumbprint but my full social security, that was unnecessary. He stated that was the process yet he couldn’t provide that to me in writing. As a branch manager, he was not helpful and wasted so much time talking to a helpline. No knowledge of what he was telling me just making things difficult. They were being unhelpful on purpose because of my race by asking for my SS number and assuming I didn’t have one.

1 starI got a loan from these people and in the year since I started doing business with them they have taken more than a thousand dollars in overdraft fees for purchases that I didn't make. I have been making my payments every month and today out of the blue with zero warning they came and took my truck. Yes I missed a couple payments back in May but nothing has ever been mentioned about them. I figured they added them to the end of the loan. I took my money out of that bank a few months ago because they just kept pilfering money out of my account. One time I sent them some extra money to try to get ahead an they took the extra and paid my loan payment with the rest. They have got to be the worst bank or credit union ever.GreenState Credit Union

1 starWorst experience ever with a credit union. They nickel and dime you every chance they get. They charged me ATM withdrawal fees no matter where I pull money from, and because I don't have direct deposit setup or have ACH deposits I do not qualify for their special rewards checking that doesn't charge fees allegedly. I'm a business owner! I do not get a paycheck to have direct deposited! I have deposits all month long from my customers via Facebook or cash app or member to member transfers and have for the past year on a very regular basis. But because they aren't set up via ACH it doesn't qualify. I'm being discriminated against for working harder than everyone else and bringing myself up out of nothing and establishing a business and becoming successful. Because of that I don't qualify for their little rewards checking account. I asked for an exception and the employee that I was chatting with refused to even send the exception to someone with authority, telling me it would be denied! What kind of a person does this? What kind of a company does this? Credit Unions should work with you and for you not against you!!GreenState Credit Union

Unfortunately, we are unable to make exceptions to the qualifications of our rewards type accounts, however, you are able to meet that ACH requirement by doing any type of ACH transfer, even between another account you own or your own PayPal/online service account. Additionally, we only charge the non-GreenState ATM fee if you opt to use an ATM out of our network, however, we do offer free access to over 70,000 ATMs nationwide as part of the Allpoint and CO-OP ATM networks. 1 starWORST CREDIT UNION EVER, DOESNT HELP THEIR CUSTOMERS. They signed me up with a checking account that had the lowest daily limit without informing me that information, even if you go to an atm that doesn’t charge an atm fee, you’ll get charged from GreenState. Customer service is literally horrible, if I had a purchase as low as .50 they’d charge me an overdraft fee of 30+ dollars each transaction that they excepted and when I wanted them removed. They told me they could only remove ONE FEE per year. THE ABSOLUTE WORST CREDIT UNION/ BANK ESTABLISHMENT. NEVER AND I MEAN NEVER BANK THERE.GreenState Credit Union
