*********************** of Preferred Contracting of Iowa came to my house after a recommendation from a friend. (turns out that friend wasn't much of a friend.) He did a walk-around and wrote a contract. The contract was a 3rd grade document and I was an idiot for signing it. (ugh)He fulfilled a part of it and disappeared. For what he did fulfill, it wasn't done properly. When I attempted, over and over, to make contact on the poorly delivered aspects, as well as the completely non delivered aspects, he ignored me. I literally had to yell and threaten via email to get a response. I mean, he totally ghosted me as he held on to thousands of my dollars.Only after threat of lawsuit did he bother to answer, but it was always another promise that he failed. This went on for many months. Promises that the work would start "next week" or the "week after" and when those weeks came along, CRICKETS. I mean, this guy wouldn't even be bothered to make up a lie or excuse - he just went silent. Once I was able to make contact he'd make up some insane sounding excuse. Literally, one of them was that the guy he'd hired to do the work had won the lottery and gone on a binge. Seriously, that's what he tried to sell us as to why work couldn't begin.The problems were not small. His crew installed the entirely wrong siding. We contracted for Dutch Lap. We got Traditional. His crew sided over our electrical on the front of the house, so we no longer had front yard lights and he never rectified this. He was supposed to install 9 new double hung windows but never ordered them, in spite of the deposit $$ given to him. He was supposed to have our bathroom remodeled, but never got to that, either, despite the $$ given to him. He is still hanging on to $$thousands$$ of our dollars.A search on ******** IA Courts Online reveals that he has a long history of lawsuits. He and his wife have multiple intertwined businesses.
