On November 28, 2024, Better Business Bureau contacted Life Sciences – Global Corporation concerning advertising claims found on its websites, https://hawaiianvolcanicorganic.com/ and https://hawaiiorganic.org/certification/certification-information/.
Specifically, Life Sciences - Global Corporation claims their farm and products are USDA Certified Organic. In addition, BBB questioned how their business reviews were sourced as BBB could not tell if they were authentic. The star ratings found on the Organic Institute website do not have any linkable reviews to view. The Hawaiian Bokashi Inoculant website also has testimonials, however, none of the products have reviews on them. BBB also asked for certifications and licensing for the State of Hawaii to sell seeds.
According to BBB’s Code of Advertising, advertisers have a responsibility to have substantiation for all claims made and should be able to provide that substantiation upon request. Advertisers should not use testimonials whereby the endorser has not been a bona fide user of the endorsed product or service at the time when the endorsement was given, where the advertiser represents that the endorser uses the product or service. Additionally, Environmental Certifications and seals of approval should not be used unless true or certifier has given permission for the company to use their seal of approval.
Life Sciences - Global Corporation responded to BBB claiming they would not provide any substantiation for the advertised claims, nor have they made any modifications to their websites.
